there was a 12B done not too long ago that had an accident very soon afteer the conversion  and i believe his was legal...there's a thread in the tech section somewhere

No, it was registered as a Sprinter.
He just used a few loopholes and a confident engineer.

its not a good idea though, some engineers get audited and you get part of the blame if this happens.

law, a few years ago. loopholes, well.. if you can get it in writing from the RTA that it's ok, then you can do almost anything with full legal endorsement.
just because an engineer passes something, doesn't make it legal. if it goes to court, they lose their licence, and youare also in shit..
but if the RTA gives approval directly... then it stands up in court..

Someone correct me if im wrong, but i think he got the chassis "re-done" to make it heavier, allowing a bigger CC engine to be trasplanted.
I think from memory.
