And spacers.

Well i knew i'd need 205's on the rear, but the pair i had came for free, so who am i to complain.
So you're saying if i had 205/55 on the back it'd be more legal than the 205/50's?

Just out of curiousity...I thought the Camry's PCD was 5 x 100...? How would you fit 5 x 114.3 wheels on it...? That's really weird...but...yeah...well done...but I was REALLY sure the Camry's PCD was 5 x 100...maybe I'm wrong...? Anyway...thanks.

I have no idea what your tyre size is. All I mean is I don't know why you didn't just go 205 all around.

My variant of Camry (Touring Vienta as it would seem) is 5x114.3 PCD, so the Zed rims go straight on.
I chose 225's on the front because 1st gear is useless with anything skinnier (and they have the correct rolling diameter). I ended up with the 205's on the rear because they were free. Otherwise i would've fitted 225's to the rear too, but then would've needed a bigger spacer and rolled gaurds.
Normally i am the sort of person who gets the same tyres all round... like i mentioned originally, fitting these wheels was a curiosity/ experiment more than anything.

Wollongong ay? Would i have seen your Soarer around? Is it the one in Coniston? I remember you saying you had new swaybars too. Where did you get those made?
Anyway, most 18" rims are a bit too 'full sik' for me... but it's cool to know they fit (how hot are R34 GT-R rims... only an extra inch away). Maybe that'd be my next experiment... anyone got flares for a Camry?
berad | why is 1st gear useless what have you done to the car to make first gear useless

Well you can't give it full throttle otherwise it just wheel spins. With 225's i have half a chance. That was with stock 205's aswell. Can't imagine it now with extractors and intake mods.

300ZX rims are cheap. I think i only paid $200 for mine.
I was going to the Cruise at Kiama but got sidetracked somehow... would've been me and my GF's KE70. I guess i'm up for another localish cruise.
Actually i'm more of a fan of track days, someone hire Wakefield for the day.
Turbo front wheel drives are cool too, but a 4WD Camry would be cooler (with R34 GT-R rims).

don't know what the widebody's are like but with the 205/60/16 michelin on our 2002 camry touring you can not launch the car cleanly, too high a launch it just spins them instantly , lower launch then full throttle sees you away cleanly until around 30kmph or 4krpm then it spins like buggery.

the usa got wheels very very very similar to that for their gen3 xle's
just wondering about the legality thing... im pretty sure spacers are illegal
but theres nothing wrong with wider tyres on the front of a street driven fwd -- more traction. some autocrossers even go a smaller rear wheel diameter to keep weight down.

Widebody Camry and onwards are 5x114.3 PCD.
Before widebodys (1992) you had 5x100 and 4 stud (really old Camry's)
Yes spacers are illegal unless you get them engineered, which i have.
Cool, i drive past your car everyday.
18's ay? Send me some pics via PM. I don't think i'd buy them but i'd like a look.
Thanks mate.

if your camry is v6 i have a $5 mod that will smooth out the power surge at 4000rpm and give you better power from 2000-4000 essentially move the surge to 2000rpm
the reason you get that is theres an achoustic sound killing system in the intake but it robs power, we get it to open on throttle vacuum instead of the vsv activated can and you get more power earlier and no more big surge at 4000rpm
pm me. or if ya know ya way around the ingine
on the left side of the intake plenum is an actuator, unplug its vacuum line, block it with a scew, then run a new line and tee into one of the 2 rear facing lines on top of the TB.

So it kills top end power and boost low down power.
Dyno tested this?
What diameter piping and plug did you use?

it does nothing to top end power. all it does is give you back low end that is taken away by the ACIS. if you run an open pod filter youll also notice now that it growls from low, not just 4k anymore.
i used 3mm vacuum hose.
the plug is a small screw i found, just plugged up the end.
the "T" connector i got from autobarn for $3 or something.
no need to dyno a $5 mod.
im SURE you notice the extra power surge at 4000rpm -- thats the ACIS actuator activating. were making it activate earlier with this mod.
-----
do you have an SAFC or other fuell controller? if not, you cna get FREE air/fuel ratio tweaking with our AFM
this applies to ALL TOYOTA with FLAP ATYLE afms (7m supras, old yota trucks, old v6 camrys etc)
on top of ya afm is a black plastic lid sealed with silicon. cut hte silicon and open her up, inside youll see a cog wheel. this is the tension adjustment for the flap.
spin it clockwise to INCREASE AIR RATIO (good for our standard TOO RICH mixtures)
spin it anti clockwise to INCREASE FUEL RATIO
1 click (of a cog) is approximateley not much at all. i have mine set forward clockwise 8 clicks.
this gets it a bit closer to stoich, youll notice much better response between 3000-5000rpm.

So no matter what way you spin it, it increases the ratios. Did you mean to say:
"spin it anti clockwise to DECREASE FUEL RATIO"
I have heard of this method before. Are you sure you don't want to dyno your car?
Also, i'll give the vacuum hose trick a go. Ley you know tonight how i went.

it SHOULD NOT kill top end, tehres no difference in the top, all thats happenign is that theres no more surage at 4k becaus its already on
1mz-fe: cannot do a/f trick
a/f trick: also works on the 7M-series engines, we use the same afm, the 3vze uses a smaller variant (its a good swap ifyou have the small oen actually)
a/f trick: clockwide makes it leaner, anti clockwise makes it richer (it as in the engine), youll want to click clockwise -- toyota usually run too rich. go 2 at a time, pulling the efi fuse to reset the ecu (30 seconds enough to clear out capacitors)
while ya at it, get some pantyhose/stockings and slip it inline on the 2 PCV hoses to stop oil blow back -- it wont melt or burn, itll stop oil going into the intake but keep teh pcv working.
the front bank is right there, the rear bank, is on the rear balbve cover under where you were working with the ACIS actuator (so the left side, its a small tube that runs into the back of hte plenum)

Ok, i'm getting different results now. It just feels shit all round.
Have i plumbed it in wrong?
I went from the actuator to the TB, and just plugged the old vacuum line shut.
Is that right?
I also did a test with a cable tie holding the butterfly open. That was great down low, but shit up high.
Can you explain how it works?

the vsv activates at 3800rpm (so its open by 4000rpm which is where you get teh surge) at over 50% TPS. so withthe vacuum tubes stock run WOT it whould be open from 3800 onwards. so it shouldnt make a difference opening earlier.
make sure you do not have another vacuum leak. but yes how you did it is correct. your results varying could maybe be the vacuum line is collapsing under the higher vacuum and making hte actuator go back to its original position. i used automotive vacuum hose from clark rubber and have a spiral wrap over it to avoide crimping under the zip ties and top cover. cheap rubber or silicon hose will collapse under the heat from the engine.

a/f mod:
ill take picture for this in the morning if ya need help, but its no ttoo hard... just a knif eto cut the silicon sealant, a texta to mark the original position, a screwdriver to click the cog clockwise and you rbare fingers to reset the efi fuse (its the big fuse box in the engine bay, 15a pull it for 30 seconds after any electical mod) go a click or 2 , reset efi, then go for a spin, if its still good, repeat process till you get knock around the 2500rpm mark (trust me, there is where its gonna start knocking first, this is where the orginal map is at its most lean setting) then back off a couple of clicks.

Mines better:
I've thought about doing the A/F mod before, but after fitting the extractors my ratios went (more than) all over the shop.
Big problem is: it starts off lean then goes rich. With tightening the spring, we can only lean the whole sha-bang. Definently something i'd wanna do on a dyno.
Stock (notice the hump @ 4 grand):
With extractors:
This last one is weird. In theory i should be blowing smoke when i drive. I think his dyno A/F ratio meter was broken.
I'll get a dyno run done later on to see what my ratios are doing now.

ill buy em afte ri get my SMT-6 ($320 USD for a piggy back ecu wootah - lappy programming, and plenty of use with this on the 3vz already - 8 wire install.)
the reason it went whackis because the orginal o2 sensor read off all 3 primaries combind and now you only get a reading by one primary... maybe.
