Lower your car to any height?!?! Mon, 15 August 2005 03:13 Go to next message
I've seen a few adverts lately from suspension places offering to "lower your car to any height" for a fixed cost.

Any ideas on how they acheive this? Some of the possibilities I have considered include:

  1. Having an infinite variety of different height springs
  2. Chopping standard springs to the required height
  3. Allowing you to select the height from limited options (eg. low and superlow)

I know I could just ring one of these places and ask, but what would be the fun in that? Razz

They either a) have them custom made to the height you want or b) reset their height.

a) is better in that you can get the spring rate you want to properly suit the car and the new height.

b) is better in that it's cheaper, but may result in softer suspension due to the reduced spring rate.

there are also spring winding machines whereby you choose a certain diameter wire, diameter coil, and then the machine can wind in cetain rates, and progessive rates, depending on the coil seperation/effective wire length...

i thought K-Mac had been doing this for ages?

edt: oh wait.. JCMF already said that Razz

is common for coil-ober sized springs, but a spring winding machine of suficient decentness should be able to do any diameter sprign with any rate you desire....

There are even fat cousins that you can put in the car. You then select the required height based on cheeseburger intake.

...did I just say that?
