a-a viscous diff is a type of limited slip diff [LSD] that differs from a normal LSD in that it does not use clutches.more info by searching google [viscous LSD]
If you jack a car up by placing the jack squarely under the diff, then spin a wheel by hand.An open diff will have the opposing wheel spin in the opposite direction to the one you are turning.a LSD of any variety will leave the opposite wheel stationary or normally spin it in the same rotational direction as the one you are spinning.[may remain still if brakes are dragging]
If you are not confused yet, search air locker, detroit locker,1.5 way LSD,2 way LSD,CIG locker [home welded jobbie],torsen LSD,Lokka, mini spool, full spool and all the ones I am yet to be aware of.......most everyone here is happy to help but they will alkso ask you to become familiar with the search function. We all use it so dont be shy.saves rewriting the same info.

(a) No - see above.
(b) Not difficult at all, just undo lots of bolts and the whole thing drops out. Be careful though, they're heavy bastards.
(c) Depends how good you are at welding I guess!

Uhh, sorry. il use search function next time. . .
I ask about how long it takes to do because it looks like there is a frame surrounding the diff (from the bottom) and i wondered whether i gotta pull off that frame too

remove diff takes 20 minutes
takes about 40 to put it back in
- first remove 4 bolts connecting tailshaft to diff
- remove 6 nuts on each driveshaft connecting them to diff
- pry off driveshafts
- remove the 2 nuts and 2 bolts holding the diff housing into rear subframe
voila
diff will fall out
and be careful, as norbs has said, they are HEAVY BASTARDS!!!
