3TgteHELP!!!!!! Sat, 21 December 2002 07:58 Go to next message
Hi...

I have just had to change the turbo/manifold gasket on mt 3tgte cause it was leaking. in the process i damaged the line supplying oil to the turbo. i didn't notice untill i started the car and it pissed out oil everywhere. the line is split and i dont know how to fix it properly....

I cut the line and replaced the broken section with oil return hose from repco.. it seems to work but i have this terrible feeling that its going to break and drain the engine in seconds!!!

has anyone here got any advice?.

is this a high pressure oil line? also is the oil too hot to go through rubber lines?

i dont want to drive it untill i know its ok...

also what is the part called that is broken?

any advice appreciated \

cheers...

Yep, you'll need to use a high temp silicon hose. The standard oil line you have used won't take the heat. It might be ok for a short while but don't trust it. An easier fix would have been to have the split silver soldered at any hydraulic/fluids shop (ei: Enzed, Pirtek, ...), is this still an option for you or has the line been butchered? Clint

If you have selected a hose that is designed for oil, can withstand 200 degrees C or so of heat, and maybe 200 psi of pressure (I know your oil system wont get to 200 psi, but you need a margin for peace of mind Smile ) then it should be fine.

Id be concerned though if you didnt flare the steel pipe that its clamped to, as you'd hate for it to slip off under pressure!

If you cant find a replacement original oil feed & drain line, then you'll probably find that its easier to get the feed section replaced with a couple of threaded fittings brazed at either end, and a braided flexible line inbetween.
