Site problems?

I think I notice it more because I spend too much time checking the forums, but does anyone else have problems where sometimes they cant access the site? I've noticed that sometimes when I follow the links from the e-mail, or try to manouvre to a new post the forums site hangs and/or times out. I've had it happen when I'm posting too, and my post has come up with no message body...
Any ideas?

I find this entire new 'Blazeboard' a complete and utter piece of shit. Full of uneccesary little masturbation smilies and extra bits that slow the thing down to a grinding halt. I preferred the old one better and would be happy if some of these wank features were cut back or limited coz downloading some of these threads hold up my computer. Do we honestly need all this text editing and colour crap?

Guys there has been a problem where we get site hangs for a little while and I've been trying to find the culprit, there seems to be two different types, one where you just get nothing on the screen, and another where you might see an SQL error message come up.
The first one I dont think is due to the fact that the new forums are currently running on a pretty old server (reliable but sloooow), which I'm hoping to upgrade at some point in time. The second prob could be a software prob but it doesnt occur as often and could still be related to the first problem.
Speed is a tricky one - there's no doubt that even this old server generates the pages ten times faster than Blazeboard ever did, but I've had a couple of modem users complain about speed and others say there's no difference at all, or better. I can say that on a cable modem, it seems a lot quicker all round. As for all the smilies and stuff, they where on the old forums, but just didn't show up on the editing page. I'll check to see if it's possible to turn that off (without hacking the code), but I've had a lot of users say they actually like that feature. Besides, after the first time you load the page, they should get cached locally anyway.
So anyway, for the lockup problems, please be patient and I'll sort these out eventually. If anyone is having speed problems, send me an email at sam@toymods.org.au and let me know which part you find slow, who you are using as an ISP, what version of IE, etc, etc. and I'll try and put all the pieces of the puzzle together. Julz, next time I see you on ICQ I might ask you to do some testing with me to see to check some stuff.

Thanks for getting back to me.
Its happened to me quite a few times, but I do spend a lot of time on here.
As for the speed, I like the new forums heaps, there isn't a lot of stuff thats not useful on here, and it runs real quick on cable at home and at uni. It even runs fine on 56k at my friends... oh well

A number of times I have had error messages stating the site is either busy or has too many users, and to call back later. not always at peak time either.

Agree with Sam here. Whilst the loading speed is okay as such, the amunt of data to be downloaded is rediculous! I was chasing up the spoiler thread a few days ago and it literally took over four minutes to load a 50 reply thread!!! Could you please make it something more practical, eg, 20 replies to a page so the modem users aren't left out.

I think you can set (in your profile) how many threads are shown on a page!

I had a few probs in the beginning but everything seems OK now.
On another point though, in the SENT folder in Private Messaging, there seems to be no way to tell who you sent the message too?
It just has the author listed, not the recipient. It might be OK if you have a good memory but I'm getting old and frail and my memory is not what it used to be....

strutto, you're right about the sent items folder... I'll see what I can find out about that one.
Bill, as Cool1 says, you can adjust your posts per page setting (at the bottom of the profile page) to suit yourself. Make sure you put your password at the top otherwise the changes dont get made and it's not really obvious.
Anyway mainly concerned about the lockup problems, but glad to hear your other comments also.
