Could i have a Celsior?
|

Ok as some people may know im up for buying a car in a few months (after many delays with money )
Now the car i want is a Toyota Celsior (im a sucker for luxury)
I have around 10-15k to spend (probably around 13k-ish) on a car
now im a 3rd year student and earn around $250 a week (i live at home so its all money in my pocket, but usually spend around 80-100 a week in expences) and was wondering it is financially viable for me to buy a celsior as my first car
now what im mainly worried about is the cost of parts and cost of fuel, and i want to know if you people think i can afford it, or i should opt for a cheaper car
anyways swing me your opinions, and any questions i havent clarified
thanks all

on a more serious note, im thinking of buying an emanage computer second hand to lean out the fuel mixtures and try and get some decent economy on the long interstate trips towing the "drift land yacht" behind me...
that should help with economy

go get a quote for insurance then ask if you like the car that much. Second where do you drive and park the car, they are pretty big cars, not something to throw in a uni car park and get it scratched etc but ppl that can't park.
Fuel costs once again its a V8, you do realise they only come in auto ie some ppl don't like autos others can't drive manual.
How old are you and when did you get your license ie can you actually own a V8 in NSW. Are you prepared to run a car on 98 ron fuel all the time, the car is gonna be 15+ years old so the paint may not be perfect and there could be some major work that needs to be done. Ie a fair few imports with air bag suspension have leaky bags costs a lot to replace and most ppl end up going the conventional route of converting to coil springs.

On a serious note, how is the fuel efficiency? How much to fill and how many km's a tank you get city driving?

I wouldn't mind a celsior and it is on my short/long list of ever growing options of cars that i'd like to buy. As yet i haven't looked at insurance but i'm guessing its gonna be a prick.
Only thing that deters me is the fact that i park at a station everyday and the fact they are auto only.

Sound optimistic to me.
Just do the maths, its not that hard.........
factor in rego, insurance, fuel, other maintenance, etc etc etc and see what you come up with. I know Toyotas are well reliable but i think especially with a car like this it would be good to have some $ in the bank just in case....otherwise if something does go wrong you will have a car you cant even DRIVE.

Personal preference . Push comes to shove i'd buy an auto car, but i'd mich rather get a manual. No one in my immediate family has ever owned an auto i don't want to be the first lazy prick.
Manual conversion yes, but the car would be my daily driver meaning i don't want it off the road and because there was no manual released from the factory the centre console is gonna be pretty dodge looking which being a luxury car i wouldn't want.

Personal preference?!
It's a fucking celsior, not an AE86 or supra or something
Who says you're a lazy prick if you drive a luxury car that's AUTO? It's a luxobarge. It's meant to be as plush and comfortable and smooth as possible.
I love the reason for not owning an Auto though. "I don't want to be the first in my family"
This is folly though. Fair enough, get your manual. It would be better for you not to taint the Celsior image anyhow.

Blow out of proportion indeed. I'm just having a bad day and really, some of the CRAP he's saying today it's just too easy. I apologise to the other forum members..
Won't see another post in that sort of tone towards corona from me again today

well generally it will be parked at my house in a driveway (or rarely on the street out the front, its a quiet area full of old ladies and families )
i live close to uni and wont be parking it there, and will only be driving it into town, to gf's place and mates houses (which is via freeways)
like i said i have about 15 k to play with, will look for one for about 11-12 and have the leftover for savings (not just for car, but ive got no other costs)
im just lookin for people to tell me if something goes wrong with the car (i.e. a usual fault or alike) that i wont be struggling to pay for it
ive had my license for 2.5 years, im 21, and have no accident history, and i dont come under the new rules so i can own whatever i like . ill also probably only get 3rd party fire and theft insurance because full comp on pretty much any car will cost me around 2-4k
i dont drive it alot, usually about 200k a week (at the most)
also anyone know what the cost of an LGP conversion would cost on it, if it can be done at all, as this would help alot with fuel costs
cheers

i'm the proud owner of a UCF11.
i like it, BUT...
it's auto, open wheeler, and sucks SOO MUCH FUEL.
they're all auto and open wheeler..but teh skids are teh shit...
matt 1jz knows this, but is yet to try it in his celly, cos he is teh gheylawd.
i'm converting mine to manual, as i don't think the auto is up to the job of the amount of towing i do in it.
i also have LSD for it, and as soon as i can find 5 minutes, i'll put it in.
i get ~500km's per tank, @ 118.9cpl, premium costs me near on $85 to fill from empty...so it aint that good on the juice. thinking of doing another plate swap on the atesiks, and paying $500 for rego just so i can save $50 a week in fuel.
full comp insurance for a rating 1 28year old with no accidents in the last 5 years, and no loss of license in the last 5 years, is just under $800 a year, with 18's listed, and a 3inch exhaust. excess is a grand, but it's down for agreed value of 15k i paid 9 for it
[/rant].
