but say i got a new ECU for my car...how do the police intend on finding out that i've done this mod??.... free trip down the dyno to compare the power out put figures??....same with bored out pistons, larger cams. theres still going to be plenty of performance mods that can be done with out being seen just by opening engine bay.

i know you could literally pull down and engine, rebuild it say big cams, high comp pistons, port head etc etc, ecu but just run stock extractors and exhaust and they wouldn't know, well if you could get the thing to idle smoothly they wouldn't. But thats if you had plenty of money

the rta have been very general with these
new rules.
ive searched the website and cant find anything
more specific than 'engine peformance modification'.
i also could not find any penalties for breaching
these laws.
if they are going to introduce new laws they
should at least do it properly and leave less
room for interpretation!
i guess ill just have to walk into the rta and
ask myself Rolling Eyes

I would really like to know if an aftermarket exhaust is banned. Does anyone know? It's not a part of the engine, but it can be a performance modification... so I'm confused. I don't know what the RTA's thinking is... stupid I guess by what they have been doing. Confused

your allowed to modifly a vehicle up to it requring an engineer's certificate for registration purposes, and as far as i know the only time you need that is for an engine CONVERSION. right?

basically its stoping you from putting like a 2JZGE into datsun 1600 etc.

Who will the prohibited vehicle condition apply to?
The prohibited vehicle condition applies to:

Provisional P1 licences issued on and after 11 July 2005 and subsequent P2 licences issued thereafter.

If you get your provisional license after the 11th of July, you are under these new laws. So if you got your P's before the 11th of July, you have nothing to worry about.

If you do get caught driving a car that is banned you will lose seven demerit points and get a fine for $375.

it also says on the RTA website: you only come under the new laws if your license is "disqualified" so if your license is only suspended you dont come under the new laws.

another wierd part is, Learner's are allowed to drive turbo'd cars???.....becuase they are supervised while driving

yeah just like learners can drive manual or auto, but if you get your auto license, then you're strictly limited to driving auto!~

i wonder if you have another fully licenced driver in the car if you could get off on driving a manual then (ie, because theyll be in the car, same situation as being on your L's with a fully licensed driver)

Ah, what do I care. These rules haven't applied to me for a while now anyway Laughing

just read through pages and pages of crap
and basically a p plater can modify their engine
up to the point where it will need an engineers
certificate.
eg. rebuilding engine with cams, pitons, porting is
all ok.

incresing engine size over 15% will need to be
engineered so is a no no

if exhaust system is fitted it needs to comply
with emission and decibel levels and is fine.

please dont go off this 100% as it is only an
interpritation of the law so call up the rta
or an engineer before hand.
hope this answer a few questions Razz
