GT4 rear diff mount on back Tue, 23 August 2005 07:49 Go to next message
I have a GT4 st165 and the mount on the back of my rear diff is busted. The rubber has come away from the metal casing.
I'd prob run straight out to get a new one but they cost like $320 dollars from toyota.
Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket equivalent or an import yard in SA that has rear parts.
Cheers

Apparently you can get aluminium aftermarket diff mounts. The guys on http://www.ozcelica.com organised a group buy for them not long ago.

I reckon you're thinking of the mount that the diff hangs down from that goes over the tailshaft. I need the mount that the back of the diff sits in. The big square bit of rubber.
Cheers anyway though.

Does anyone now a place that could make me a new mount if i take them the old buggered one. Its only a bit of rubber in a metal casing.
Also what are the chances of that costing less than a genuine toyota mount Very Happy

Call Noltec in Sydney they sponsor the club

they should be able to do it for you and they will have a distrubitor in S.A.

it will also be cheaper than toyota

i think having nasa custom build you one from solid rocket fuel coated in titanium would be cheaper than toyota...toyota are fucked...imho...sorry about the pointless post, i just feel really betrayed by toyota, the outrageous prices they try to extract from loyal toyota fanatics and enthusiasts is just...lunacy imho, call automotive trade parts centre in cardiff, newcastle they will hook u up with a better quality aftermarket unit for like $80

I just used some 5mm alloy plate just like all the rally boys do. Drill the required holes and you are up and away for about $10 max. It'll never break and caused no probs for me, too easy. Esaiest GT4 mod i've ever done.

Cheers heaps for ya help fella.
Keen to hear more about this alloy plate. Does it make the diff to ridgid and hence cause extra stress on the front mount?

Just for interest sake the genuine part can cost between $290 and $390 at different toyota parts places. Interesting

The front diff mount is solid anyway with the bushed located in the main cross brace. As things are now solid at the rear these would have even less stress on them with majority of the twisting now transferred straight to the diff cradle.

Only benefits in terms of performance with no real downside except perhaps some additonal road noise but with any type of larger exhaust it's not something you really notice.

the biggest plus is cost though....$10 of alloy and 10 minutes with a hand drill and vice
