personally - I dont know why you'd use a 3.4l from a 4runner...
the 3sgte is capable of SOOO MUCH......*shrug* guess it's to be unique.

There is no real replacement for displacement, you may say turbochargers, but he has them too
One question I raise is though...is that an iron block engine!?

Eww, why didn't he just get a V6 Camry engine, almost as big, much lighter though, would've helped his handling no end.

because camry engiens are iron block too
but we have alloy heads (or newer ones do -- same as that 5VZ-F(T)E.

No, the current 1MZ Camry engines are all-alloy. At least they are here.

the thing is, the USA seems to have problems getting 3S-GTE's for some reason.. youll find more 3.0L V6 and 5SFE Turbo's in MR2's over there.

Back to the alloy V iron debate. The 1MZ is a really weak engine compared to the iron block V6's. The rods are a lot weaker and the pistons aren't nearly as substantial. In short if you're going to go forced induction an MZ would really need rods and pistons.
As to why do it, well sure the 3S can maje huge power but it's not going to get close to the low end torque of this thing. Horses for courses really. I'm building a 3SGTE that I don't expect to hit full boost until 4500rpm, but I'm happy with that. This customer wanted the grunt from down low so he made his choices. I tell you what though the twin turbo 3400 would feel a hell of a lot tougher than any 3S on the street.

He also does a "big brake" conversion. Not fussed on how he does the calipers but

MR2's dont really have issues with traction like f/r and f/f cars do...
with a lump of iron like that im sure it would aid traction
I wouldnt mind doing a conversion like this looks alot more appealing than a 3sgte sw20 and he has gone about his i/c location in a very similar way to how i have alltho the i/c piping is a bit ghetto and i dont like the way he has just cut big holes but i guess its not finnished yet

dumn question prossibly, but what gearbox/bellhousing would go behind a camry V6 to enable you to run it in a RWD car?
something from a 4wd?
am not contemplating it personally, just curious as there was a v6 camry wagon at wacol ABC with the engine mostly intact and it did look reasonably short and not extremely wide.
cheers,
Charles.

i know that... i was wondering how/if the engine could be run in a RWD (north-south) configuration? much the same way people stuff an east-west 3sgte into north-south TA/RA2x's.

Well the guys putting V6's in SW20's use the E153 which is the standard box with the 3SGTE. I'd assume that any of the gearboxes commonly used to make a 3S front rear would work. A nice little RS200 6 speed would be my pick behind a 1MZ-FE in a light car.

the 3VZ was orginally a RWD engine (for the FWD set up they run an oil relocation kit to clear the FWD engine mount locations)
you could use a Hilux box probably to run it in a N-S config

Hmmm iron block V6 in MR2 = spin machine in my book. Nice engineering but the weight is gonna kill handling....they are taily enough as it is and with that weight swinging around it'll be uncatchable.
As for force inducting the 1MZ, no probs there at all. You could easily achieve 400hp flywheel with more torque than you could use safe as houses...i wouldn't crack the engine open until 500hp had been passed. Much lighter and look at the perf of Brad Bedell (?) beast. If those yanks could tune them his original setup would have lasted just fine

1MZ rods seem to go with anything over 300hp (theyre small like a pinky finger)... which isnt hte case with the 3vz but too bad the 3vz had paper thin pistons
