Replacing wheel studs Wed, 24 August 2005 00:21 Go to next message
Are there any write ups about replacing wheel studs? Im going to give this a go myself on the weekend. From my understanding, its as simple as taking the wheel off, unbolting the brake caliper, taking the disc off, and knocking out the stud? Any more info would be handy.

Cheers!

Yep thats it...
1. Remove wheel.
2. Unbolt caliper.
3. Tap off disc with rubber mallet or similar.
4. Bash out old studs
5. Bash in new studs (or use the an old rim to pull them into place)
6. Reverse steps 1-3.

Its much nicer if you actually unbolt the hub because you can get to the rear of the studs easier, however, most people just do it while the hub is still bolted to the car.

err torque as in the amount of force used to tighten them up, measured with a torque wrench. for wheel nuts i wouldnt bother, id just do them up as much as i can with the the wheel spanner.
