iv asked this all ready, but I didn't get a satisfactory answer,
SO ILL ASK IT AGAIN
how hard is it to fit a SR20 in to a ra40 engine bay, iv heard its as simple as turning an engine mount up side down, has any one tried this in a celica of similar build
and b4 u all have a go at me iv considered all my posibilities (1jz, 1uz, 18rg, 4age, and the SR turns out the cheapest)
any help would be helpfull

I seriously doubt it's that easy. I've seen an SR20 in an RA28 Celica and the engine mounts were totally custom. They also used a TA23 crossmember to match the SR20's front-sump layout.
Be aware that the engine mounts are the least of your worries. Physically mounting the engine is the easy part; the difficult/expensive stuff comes after that!

fixed...
seriously: the cheapest conversion for an RA40 would be an 18R-gue, followed by the 1G-gte.
The 4age would be a high-revving screamer (to get the power to shift a heavy ra40 around) and the other 2 would be too large in capacity for an RA40 (in Qld).
I've seen what i think was an SR20DET in a sprinter at Willowbank at the '04 Jamboree. It looked like a very busy and well stuffed engine bay. When i get home i'll try to find and post a pic.
Perhaps the answers were satisfying the requirements of the question, but not your expectations?
cheers,
Charles.

thanx Witzl, i was thinking a long those lines but i wasnt exactly sure.
it wont actually cost me that much, a mate of mine has his own shop so getting the engine and box in and connected wont be such a problem, the exhaust and cooler piping is wot wories me coz dats one thing he cant do.

Ok, so of the 10 items on my list... you have eliminated the CHEAPEST two, and were aware of two others.... that leaves $6000 you arent prepared for by my dodgy $1000/item formula - but thats not taking into account most of the 6 items left will be $1500-2500....
SR20DET - NOT CHEAP.

My best mate has a SR20 in his RA40, got it done bout 2 months ago, cost $2500 for front cut s15 which had done 19k, all up incl ST185 GT4 brakes all round and VL turbo fuel pump etc cost him $8k. Custom engine mounts on the r series x member, radiator moved foward, piece of the underside of the bonnet taken out to accomodate the cam cover, custom tail shaft, new gear shifter position (further back). It flies
