looks like an early 18RG, 2L DOHC. hate to get pulled over with one of these puppies in your bay, but would be fun.
to answer your question, no, all TA22s should have a 3TGTE

doh !...i should have known by the top radiator hose on the other side
why isnt it legal ?
in qld it is about power to weight ratio, im sure a 18rg wouldnt be that illegal considering i have seen 327 chevs and even a 351 in toranas !

umm, there is a little thing about a car being engineered that makes the all the difference...

and the dizzy mounted on the block gives it away.
18RGs can be engineered in a TA22, but as they were meant for RA2x the TA22 is too small, hence brake upgrades etc would be required for the extra 25% engine size.
