Intercooler Pump. No power?? Mon, 29 August 2005 10:21 Go to next message
Hey Guys.
I have an 87 ST165. The intercooler pump is not pumping. Check Engine light does not come on at idle. But it is making the check engine light come on once you have been moving for about 7 seconds and then turns off once you have stopped moving, roughly 15 seconds after you pull up.(at least i reckon the pumps the thing causing the light).
I pulled the electrical clip out, cleaned it. No Go
I checked all the wiring not part of the loom(ie the bit that goes down infront of the battery). Still no go.
I put the multi on the clip and ran the car. Got the Check Engine light to come on but no power going to the pump. Hence No go.
Has anyone experinced this?
Is there a fuse i need to check?
Can i hard wire the pump?
Does it matter if the pump runs all the time(ie are they easy to replace)?
Should i wire it on a switch?
Any other feedback and experience is welcome?
Excuse the long thread i thought i'd give you guys all the info i know.

You can hard wire the pump, lots of people do it as a mod to make the cooler cool more efficiently. You could also put a switch so you could turn it off when you are crusing or whatever. They don't look that hard to replace either way if it wears out.
