Google earth is shit, how do u get it to search

i have downloaded the program, i cant for thew life of me get it to search properly
as standard it goes to the USA, i tried to search for the gold coast, it came up with a bunch of business that have to do with the gold coast, then i searched for pripyat {chernobyl} as i wanted to look at the reactor, came up with a museum  in the same city
if u type just the word "sydney", it'll jump the ocean and go directly to syndey olympic stadium, u type gold coast from there, nope, u type goldcoast or gold coast {space} anbd add "qld" or "aus", nup, still doesnt work, type melbourne, it works fine,
how are u supposed to find a place overseas, just go to city and roam for a bit,
can anyone explain this to me

we had it installed at work and it had all these stuff u can do, like 3d buildings and shit (try new york)

...no easiest way is to type in sydney on the top left window, works everytime, unless you have monkeys at work clicking on everything.

ahhhaahhahahahaa gold, best way to use google earth is search the capital city (brisbane) then find a major highway and follow to where you want to look at.
Thats what i did only to find for sydney when you get to campbelltown you can't zoom it to get a decent pic/see anything like my own house.
