Crown wheel and pinion matching? Tue, 30 August 2005 12:05 Go to next message
I have searched.

My old man told me u need to have matching crown wheel and pinion. In other words you must use the pinion that was meshed into the crwown wheel orginally.
Can any one back this up? or put me onto a good diff link?

Also can i use the original crown wheel and pinion if i install a cusco LSD. Its a 6.7 T series out of my ra28.

Thanx

well... the mating surfaces of a crown and pinion are prety bloody complex geometry... they are originally ground as a matching set, and as they wear, they become even more matched (for better or worse).
whilst it is possible to use a non-matching set, chances are that the surfaces will initially have a much higher rate fo wear as the high spots wear of... and they may not wear off evenly maybe??

matching sets is a good idea..

as for centres, no problem, as long as the old and new centre are true, then it should be fine.
