Would an RA45 with disc brakes fit under a TA22 ok? or would it require chopping etc?

i was just thinking before, and correct me if i am wrong, but didnt the TA22 GT have disk brakes? that would have been the first celica with disks so why is it impossible for the RA28 to have had disks?

MA61 discs go onto the RA65.
MA45 rear end goes into RA28-60.
