Bolt-in tachometer question Wed, 31 August 2005 09:51 Go to next message
Hi,

I'm looking at installing a tachometer for my AE92 Corolla CS. It has a 4A-FC engine (the carby one).

So I found this tachometer on ebay but it has a clause:

Do Not Fit Coil Pack Car Like V6 Commodore/Hyundia?Lancers ect WithOut Special Control Box Which Is $150 From Rocket Industries FITS ALL CARS WITH A DISTRIBTOR POINTS OR ELECTRONIC ALSO HAS A SWITCH ON THE BACK TO FIT ALL 4/6/8 CYLINDERS

So would this work on my car? TIA

In addition I hope to install it into the dashboard of the existing cluster (knock a round blanking plate out and sit the tacho in). Anyone does this before, or should I just mount it on the steering column? I'm not interested in adding racy gauges to the car, just want to know what RPMs its doing.

You car does not use coil packs, (you have a conventional igniter/coil arrangement).

The tacho should work fine Smile

Cheers

I really must ask why you'd fit a tacho to a 4AF, but anyway...

Happy ending. I found a complete cluster at a scrapyard for $40. Smile Works a treat, and reads more accurately than the old one. The next problem is bringing the idle speed down from 1000rpm......

Definitely. I thought about doing that, but I reckon I have enough time on my hands to start fiddling around tracing the vacuum leak as well as try to play around with the idle screw a little. Who wants a simple solution to a simple problem when you got the spare time to find a complex solution?
