Davies Craig thermo fan and 3T-GTE

I'm wanting to put a 14" Davies Craig thermo fan on my 3T-GTE that is in my TA22. Has anyone ever done this? How did you go with clearance problems? also, is it possible to use the temperature sender unit on the thermostat housing to activate the thermo fan or do you need to use the Davies Graig thermostat unit?
Regards
Daniel

dont buy the davis graig, they are shit, i have had two of them lock up on me. you can use the standard themo swith to run the fan, you just have to modify the wiring to suit the fan.

Thanks for your reply mate,
What do you think would be a good option other than a Davies Craig? also, by the thermo switch you mean the sender unit that is attached to the thermostat housing of the 3T-GTE? is it the same unit that the temp gauge is attached to? how do you modify the wiring and how would you adjust the temperature that the thermo fan kicked in at?

Do you have enough room in front of the motor to fit a 14" fan? I could only just fit a 12" when it was offset on the radiator to clear the water pump pulley.

I can't see to much drama with the water pump pulley, although i havent yet measured it up (all i need is 75mm clearance). I will be measuring it before i buy the kit though thats for certain My main concern is the crankshaft pulley as i still have the original one on which has the drive for both the aircon pump and the power steering

the 3TGTE crank pulley splits in two, so if you do not have aircon or p/steer, undo the 4 bolts in the front of the pulley, and you'll be able to take the front row off for more clearance. I did this on mine to fit a crank trigger disc where the 3rd row used to be.

Just for your info davies craig r the best in australia. I have two 12" on my ma61, and a 10" on the a/c unit. thEy've been running for over a year everyday for about 1.5-2hrs everyday. they have been flawless...Trust me maybe you just had some bad luck...other than that buy one off a car at a wreckers...siemens off a bmw are great...fucken huge tho!! Dads got one that can cool a v12 jag..its 18". The majority of them are fine...just sometimes some fuck up on you...just like clutch fans can lock up or loose their locking up capabilities and you can spin them backwards with your hand. But electric fans r the go...i got an extra probably 20hp on my 5me...which is a massive difference on that engine! Drives better, isnt loud apart from exhaust...revs harder...better fuel econ, all round a better car now...and the electric ones run the car cooler in traffic

hey i have a pretty good custom setup for the ta22 on my 2tg using a newish corrolla raiator. I did it myself and it cost about $250. Its only single core but fits like a dream and the surface area is massive compared to the standard ta22. Really works well and never onerheats, it uses the standard thermo fan and there are no more fan being rammed into the radiator issues, clearence was always an issue.
I used the davies craig thermo swithch and thermostat $70 and i $5 relay, its so easy to wire up and you can adjust the temp very easily.
I found a s-bend pipe for the top hose, no mods here but for the bottom i used an adapter pipe to join the 2 different pipes, quite easy. The radiator is a snug fit but looks lie standard.
I'll try to get some pics and i wrote a bit to JUZZO about this, so i'll see if i can find the thread, if you want pics email me. Poide69@hotmail.com

if you havent already got a new radiator then i'd maybe consider another option.
With a 2tg i found that it sits very close to the radiator, mine got a beating from a little movement on the mounts. I went to a wrecker and picked up a larger single core radiator with a thermo fan from a 92 corrolla (i think)$120 and with a bit of mods, i fit it.
I bought a davies craig thermo swith a relay ($70) and wired it up. It is so much better. I needed a different top hose but it was a simples S shape (free from wreckers) and the bottom hose needed a metal piece of pipe to make the two diffretn hoses fit. I also made a heaps simple cover so that the altanator pulley couldnt tear it to pieces. I modified the top arms from the new radiator to hold the radiator, just cut the tops off to make them fit, real easy. A couple other mods were done, a real basic bottom bount for it to sit on, its pretty easy if you have the time and it looks so much better and my car never overheats.
