Conversions - Corolla Sat, 28 December 2002 07:08 Go to next message
I know about the options that i have but there are options that no one ever really talks about.

The one i want to look into is the new celica engine (post 3sge), does anyone know of an informative site on these engines.
I know that they are a 1.8ltr have decent power figures and a 6 speed box (but they are a bit pricey still).

Would this be an easy conversion to do for a 96 corolla?

Anything is posiable, but I don't think putting a 2ZZ-GE engine with 6 speed into a older corolla is a backyard job. Maybe in 20 years people will have it figured out, but I don't know if anyone has done it yet. You need a full workshop and experience to do this conversion, as you could need custom axles or something like that, you never know. You may need the Celica shafts and struts also, not sure. Custom engine mounts for sure, and getting the engine hanging in the right spot could be trickly, but not a problem for the experienced.

If you already have a 1ZZ-FE corolla, then the 2ZZ-GE should just bolt in.

Or if you have a new Corolla, maybe it'd be better to wait for the factory Sorolla Sportivo with the 2ZZ-GE coming out....this year!

If I remember correctly, the 1ZZ may have come out in Japan in '96 Rollas.... Check it out if you want a 2ZZ 'coz it could save you a lot of custom fabrication..

North America where the first to get the 1ZZ-FE in their Corolla sedans. Japan first got the 1ZZ-FE in the current ZZE120 shape, which came out 1 year before they got to Australia, December 2000?

Kewl. Thanks for clearing that up. I knew the 1ZZ was used before this one. Just assumed that it was Japan... Embarassed
