A mate of mine has a 1jzgte which he wants to off load and he said he would sell it to me for $600 including gbox but it has no ecu of loom.

1) at this price will it be cheaper that buying a 1ggte front cut or will buying the wiring loom and ecu end up costing me more.

2) will it make the corona to front heavy. it's for track use

3) What are the legalities of it. ie will i be able to engineer it cause i will still be using it as a daily driver. Oh and also, will RA65 and MA61 brakes be good enough or will they fail me.

4) does the 1jz use a W58

5) any warnings i should be given before undertaking such a swap Ie am i complete noob for even trying it.

sorry so many question
cheers for your help

can help a little.
ecu and loom for 1J.Auto ecu's are easier to get, with a loom and auto computer about 400 but sometimes you can get lucky and get one for half that.Search 1J ecu,you will find plenty, read up.can run as manual etc etc.
for track use why not a 4 cyl.personally dont know them but do know plenty of info on this site and a track car needs a heavy donk like i need an old school V8 with a diesel truck supercherger and two holley 750 dbl pumpers.
1j can use a w58 but its almost impossible to get a bellhousing and flywheel.believe me I have tried.Bell-350 flywheel 350-gbox 450.prices relate to availability and demand. If you must have a w58 use a 2j non turbo [2jzge] item at 1000 to $1200 complete.its the best of the w58.s with double synchros and revised shifter [improved]
search "readers rides" for 1J coronas. All the info you need is available on this site.Guys simply get overwhelmed with the huge amount of idiotic shit questions posted here and stop helping.Just read the questions and you will se what i mean.
best of luck and use the search function a lot.Cheers.Pete. Smile

yeah thanks a heap pete. good to see the toymods hospitality.

i asked about the w58 cause i already have a spare one. and the engine comes wif a gbox and i assumed it would be a w58. ok i'll look into it a lil more.

cheers mate

oh yeah the reason for no 4cyl is that there are like 2 or 3 i can choose from. Everyone seems to love the 1ggtes into coronas and so i then started researching the 6's n it seems the way to go. but point taken about the weight. the 4cyl in it at the moment aint exactly the lightest donk around though (22RE)

Second Gear on a a W57...

Where are the double syncros? I'm not a gearbox expert...? (if they are there I don't see them)...I don't know where that knowledge came from (I used to believe it myself!). For the time being until someone shows me a picture of a w58 with double syncros I'm not going to believe it! (I will write up an article one day showing the differences I know of between early w57/w58 and late w58...).

It maybe cheaper, it may not! It depends on what exactly it comes with, collecting little bits and pieces can be hard and costly...if it comes with a manual gearbox (regardless of type it is a bargain in my opinion Smile)

2) will it make the corona to front heavy. it's for track use

Maybe, it would be better suited to a drag car in my opinion Smile, but there isn't any reason you can't improve the handling. It won't have the handling of a light 4cly tho...

Depends where you are in Aus.

4) does the 1jz use a W58

1jz-ge's came with w58's. 1jz-gte's came with r154's. w58's can be made to fit with 1/2jz-ge w58 parts. There are also aftermarket bellhousings available, but be aware they are quite expensive as well...

Have a look and work out how hard you think it will be to get a complete loom...

Also have a look around the site, there is a gent that has a yellow rona with a 1jz in it (and a big single turbo) Very Happy

Cheers

Most of the questions have already been answered so I will just give my opinion. Coronas are NOT made for track use. I suppose it could be possible to make it handle ok but it will take a lot of fiddling. I have konis, kings, swaybar and new bushes in mine and it is pretty crappy IMO. But I don’t really care as it is for drag racing anyway.

It isn’t an easy conversion into an xt130. I don’t know of anyone who has done it in an st141 either. I have a jzx90 chaser x –member that has been modded to fit to the xt130 suspension. You will need a diff upgrade, tailshaft, brakes, cooling. Basically everything. It isn’t cheap and no conversion will be.

If you really want a track car, I would use a 4 cyl. Not sure which one except Nissan engines as they are cheaper than rwd 3s-gte’s.
