im thinking of ordering the 6mge engine from rabid chimp. just wondering if i could get some feedback from anyone who's bought engines from them. what are the shipping/import taxs like? and was there anything else that was needed to make the conversion from a 5me?

I'm sure you can get one locally, i picked up a 6m for free, a other alternative is to get a 5m-ge and a 7m-ge with a dead head and make your own 6m-ge with the stronger 7m rods and better balanced crank while maintaining the cost effective lack of 12 valves!, higher compression of 5m-ge pistons and cheaper parts!

is it possible to get a 7m and remove the turbo's? im on a steep bloody learning curve with this car.. ive had it 6 months and ive blown the 5me in it. so yeah lookin at replacements. or is it worth doin the valves, gasket and replacing the head?

5me with a BHG is merely a boat anchor in the wrong shape.
I'd suggest starting with a DOHC engine (5/6/7MGE) and either rebuild as is - or do the hybrid internals as suggested by Allan.
the reason you want a 5mge as a starting point is none of the timing gear/cases out the front of the engine swap over from 5me to Xmge.
Just remember to also get loom and ECU - the 5me loom and ecu is not share-able.
