driving with "un" power steering ?? Sat, 28 December 2002 12:05 Go to next message
after a BIG engine self destruct momnet the other night, im currently forced to drive around without the power steering pump going - rendering my car non power steered (of course)

question is: does driving a power steer car around without the pump actually functioning 'bad' for anything??

wil only be for a couple of days (200km) untill i can get a new belt...

cheers
ed

As long as there is fluid in the system (to keep the rack lubricated), it will be fine. I drove my Supra around like that for a good 12 months... didn't damage anything, but it sure was a bitch to park! Smile

ive been drivign my cressida for a year without it... it is next on the list. You get used to it.. thats the problem!!
I've had my pump looping to keep it working... as for the rack, no hassles yet but now i think about it, hmmm... it should need lub too!

PS: just fix it.. i've been lazy and everytime i drive something with power steer i think.. DAMN i need to fix that. I will as soon as i'm back in sydney, when you do a 1j into mx73, its a matter of making up all new pipes and about $140. Cheap price to pay for easy parking!

no totaly off subject.. and sorry to hijack the thread.

is it possible to powersteer a non powered car?

how much roughly would it cost to setup it (parts and all)?
parking front ways is ok. but reverse parking is a b*tch.
