Extrude Honing

Hello, after making up my 3sgte turbo manifold, I thought it might pay to have it extrude/honing done on it. just to clean up any dags, or slightly offset joins.
What does everyone think of the extrude honing process? Is the smooth surface a good or bad thing that you are left with?
I noticed they also extrude turbine housing. Again, and info on the merits of this?
Cheers

I have being thinking about this process instead of the usual port, port match etc. I reckon its a good idea for the exhaust side of things but im lead to believe that a slightly roughed up intake is good for the combustion process and mixing of fuel/air.
I also hear its the same for the valves-rough intake, polished/swirled for exhaust. I have no idea of places near me who do it either which sucks. I need to look into that
What sort of prices have u been getting up your way Joel?

Hi Joel,
I have actually had this done on some 2-stroke parts (pipe and manifold) and the difference is noticeable though you will want to have done a lot of work to the motor before bothering with extrude honing I think. It is the icing on a build-up cake so to speak.
Are there any places that actually do this process in Australia?
I had bits done in the US.
Cheers

i've always felt a little dubious at their claims... but it will deburr the surface.... that is not always what you want tho (the whole sandast finish/boundary layer debate)
as for using it for porting (power porting??) does it remove material from where it is needed? or just areas that give the semi-solid working medium the highest resistance...
they do give flow numbers for various things, but it would be interesting to hear from an objective person who has used it to get specific gains.. not the normal testimonials like "i got it extrude honed and put a magnetic fuel conditioner on it and put in a new K&N and it feels like i've got 200 more hp.."
what is the manifold made of?? how bad does it look inside? do you think the dags will represent a more than negligible loss?

Howdy, the manifold is made of steam pipe, and it is quite good inside. Just was thinking if there was any protruding bits of weld or slightly offset pipe joints that the extruding process might be a good thing to clean it all up.
Though, i've just found out that the company in Syd only looks after cast iron and cannot do steam pipe.
Might not worry about it now, as you say I think the gains would probably be negligible.
