Annoying Virus

Hey, the other day I somehow got a virus that disguises itself as Internet explorer, Every 10 or so seconds it refreshes the screen opening and closing the window that I have open, occasionally it does it slowly enough for me to read this little window that pops up in the bottom left corner, it says STATIC in capital letters, If i go onto task manager, everytime it refreshes the page, IEXPLORE comes up as the process then disappears again, it is the most ANNOYING virus i've ever had, I tried to delete internet explorer using the "remove windows programs" wizard, but it has done absolutely nothing...
Anyone know????

u got an antivirus?
try downloading adaware or something like that(eg: a free scanner), and run a full system scan.
try turning ur IE security settings up to max, it might stop it.
or get a firewall and that will prob come up saying some program is trying to access the internet.
go into safe mode and see if it happens there.
there was a file u could execute in win to fix IE. google it.
this prob wont stop ur prob but u could use an alternative like gozilla instead of IE.
or google your problem, someone is bound to have encountered it before.

DO IT!!
Or you can do it yourself. Don't close any of the processes. Instead do a google of your syptoms first -- if you don't find the solution (you probably will) then what you do is type in the names of all your processes into google one by one (eg. ctfmon.exe; IEXPLORE.exe etc.) It will come up with some description of the process (usually the first or second hit that comes up) and will tell you whether it is harmful or not.
When you find the culprit, head over to your best friend google again and search 'how to remove [process].exe'
Or type in the name of the process or show us a list of them like hamgatan said and maybe someone can be bothered to do the searching for you

Well its actually stopped for some reason now... I've found the virus using a virus program I downloaded but I have to register to remove it so I'll do that later tonight...
I'll keep you posted to see if that works...

exactly. perfectly put.
i doubt iexplore would have been the perpertrating application at fault. many viruses today are blended threats so theyre using far more sophisticated ways of distribution of payload, as well as operating in stealth mode. you might have some other process thats running in your startup that is remote triggering IE to load and go to a particular URL to download the rest of its payload through activex exploits.. its been done a lot. i doubt very much that its just a virus posing as iexplore.exe.. thats so 1990s..

I was using iexplore and ctfmon as example proceses, very very unlikely iexplore would be the offending process.
