4a-g conversion for ke70 or ae71.

I'm wanting to buy an early 80's rwd corolla, a ke70/ae71 to be exact. In the near future I wish to convert it to a 4a-g. I know it will be easier to convert an ae71 to 4a-g, but I'm finding it hard to track down a good ae71 for cheap, where as there are endless amounts of cheap ke70's. So what I'm asking is. Do you think it's worth using the ke70 as the base for a 4a-g conversion? Is the extra effort worth it in the end for price?

if u get a ke70 get a late model 84-85 manual cs model with hydraulic clutch, then u use a ae71/ae86 t50 gbox, ae71/ae86 4a crossmember...
should all just bolt up, but just incase try to get a ae71 t50 and crossmember

Are the newer ke70's unleaded? because I imagine it would require a bit of work to convert one to run unleaded once a 4a-g is put into place.

yea im looking to get another ae71 my self...
it would be best if u get a ae71 manual to make things easy
but a late model ke70 shouldnt be that hard, just might cost a bit more with love

Lol, I would love to get an ae71, but they seem to be hard to find. I went looking around at car yards and they say they just sell them straight to the wreckers and the only place to get them is the trading post. but i've been watching the trading post for awhile and havn't seen a cheap one yet. I could try the wreckers I guess, but from what I'm told they are expencive.

So you think it would be better to get a shell from the wreckers? as long as its cheap enough...

yea wreckers is ur best bet, most of the ones they had where pretty complete at the time they crushed them...
i guess if ur going to do the conversion as a ongoing one then a ke70 is a good second option, just use the 4k until u get all the parts to do the convo

It's not too hard really.
I've just converted my auto KE70 to manual 4age. I already had an AE86 crossmember for the engine to bolt into. To mount the gearbox I had to elongate two of the holes in the gearbox crossmember to make it fit, but this may be different if the car is manual. You will also need to drill some holes in the firewall to put the clutch master but theres a spot there where it fits perfectly. Then all you need is an AE71 tailshaft and your set. The rest is just fiddly stuff like wiring and fuel.

Currently in the middle of a KE70-4AGE conversion at the moment, really the only difference is having to get an AE71 engine crossmember, gearbox crossmember, tailshaft, t40/t50 gearbox, and complete hydraulic clutch setup, but overall all of that shit has costed me just over $200 and considering I bought the almost mint KE70 for $300, it works out alot cheaper than buying a $2000 AE71 .
mumblezzz can you please take a photo and post it of the exact location you mounted your clutch master cylinder? I'm a bit confused as to that one
Cheers,
Kev.
Edit: (Oh and by the way, Leo man, I think your KE70 was one of a kind, KE70s in no way come with hydraulic clutches, yours must have had a hydraulic conversion done at some stage, my current KE70 is the last line of KE70 made (1985) and it has cable clutch. My last KE70 was 1984 and also had a cable clutch.
