Coilover options for AE86??

Hey guys,
When I get around to upgrading my suspension on my sprinter I just want to weigh up all the options with regard to suspension setups.
So I ask you guys and gals, what options do I have???
I was thinking of possibly getting TEIN coilovers, the street/semi track ones, I think they are the HA ones.
What you guys think of TEIN (any good?), are there any other companies that make good coilovers for the AE86??
Soz for all the questions,
Thanx heaps!

Thanx Cool1, but do you guys think that buying coilovers straight off the bat would be better quality, safer, and overall better handling, or would it not make much of a difference??

I dont think getting custom made items(like in the link I posted) would be too bad as long as they are made correctly and are of high quality

Hi,
The Tein items are over priced a tad. Whiteline suspension in Sydney will convert your standard strut in your AE86 to the specs you want. Like the link that Cool1 put up.
They will custom make the spring to suit the insert you choose. I have seen some set-ups they have done, chop about an inch of the standard strut - dump the spring perch and weld on some threaded tubing - fully height adjustable and then you can use a shortstroke insert.
Give them a call and get a price.

Ok another dumb question about coilovers on sprinters.....
"Do the coilovers for the rear of the sprinter look the same or similar to what they would look like at the front, cause I noticed that the shock is not within the spring ALA Mcpherson strut on the rear of the sprinter....... what is this type of suspension called??
Thanx!

I am not quite sure, but I call it 'inboard spring' rear end and everyone seems to know what I am on about. You can convert the rear of a sprinter to coil over but to do it properly requires some extensive body strengthening (though you do see pictures on the net where this set-up is in place without body mods, such as on Bill Sherwoods site).
To be honest a well set-up inboard spring style rear end (rigid rear - unless you convert to independent, then you will also have the money for body strengthening.... ) will perform very well indeed.

Here's mine.
You need to strengthen up the lower mounts or they'll eventually peel off.

If you look at the lower mount, you'll see that it's a sort-of tab that sticks out below the main structure of the lower trailing arm mount. It'll eventually flex enough to peel right off, so you have to add a couple of small triangles of metal to brace it up. I'm going to do an update to my site hopefully in a week or two, and I'll have a picture of what to do in that update.
You're basically forming a 3D structure that holds the lower mount in place.
