Car immobiliser problems...

My SV21 Camry's battery died so I got a new one and installed it myself. Now the immobiliser is behaving wierd, the light blinks as normal but when I push the button to unlock the doors and setoff the 30-sec disable so the car can start, it just double-blinks and wont let the car turn over! I have what I presume to be the disable code on the back of the remote but am not sure how to enter it in! Its a fairly standard immobiliser, the remotes are those mock woodgrain semi-rectangular ones with two round buttons. If anyone can help, it would be great!

Hmmm, thats a wierd one dude. The only thing I can think of is maybe the fuse for the immobiliser has popped. Is blinking the LED on the dash twice or the indicators?

Hi,
On some units you need to turn the ignition on after x-number of flashes.
For example, assume your code is 5516, then you put the key into your ignition and after 5 blinks of the indicators you turn the switch to start the engine. Then you got to do this after another 5 blinks, then after 1 blink, and finally after 6 blinks, when the circuit will be enabled and your car should start.

The problem seems to happen sometimes, then go away and come back again! I went to try entering the code but everything was fine - it was like there wasnt a problem. Went to a mates then tried driving tonight, and now my tacho needle flicks on and off, the light in the button for the rear defogger turns off, the battery light flicks on sometimes in synchronisation with the LED for the immobiliser and the headlights go off for a split second randomly!!! I went to drive the car again later and now there is no light blinking for the immobiliser, when I turn the car to on the radiator fans go on as if everything is fine but the car wont start. Its like the immobiliser has completely stopped the car from starting... I am seriously confused as to what the problem might be! The problem has only surfaced since getting a new battery! I have checked alot of the fuses, they are fine.
One other question - There is a series of three fuses attached in a box to the positive terminal of the battery, I have checked through the car manual and I cant find anything regarding what the fuses do?! Does anyone know the answer to this question?

Find the point of immobilization for your immobilizer and check all the connections for it. One of those connections on the positive terminal could actually be powering your immob so check them as well and for your piece of mind trace them and see what their powering. Next open your dash and check all your immob connections and fuses. If your running external relays as a point of immob then test them as well, replace if necessary. Check your regular battery connections for good connections and tightness. If all this fails its off to the auto elec with a fist full of cash in hand. Good luck.

I cant actually find the immobiliser - I have been looking everywhere for it and just cant find it. Where is the usual place they are installed to? I have traced a few wires, most of them heading either to the firewall, the fusebox next to the battery or the engine. If the immobiliser is fried (I am not sure how something like that would happen), would it still be able to stop the engine from turning over?? Thanks all for replys, it helps alot!

It depends on how many immob points you have, 1,2,3. Have a look at the ignition switch loom, the first one is usually the ignition itself then the starter and fuel pump.

Usually the point of immob is deactivated when using external relays by earthing one side of the relay and allowing flow through the relay powering your ignition etc. The reason why yours stopped could be bad connections on your relays, bad connections at your alarm control unit. Ifs its a intergrated alarm with internal relays then the actual board of the alarm could be faulty. Check all your earths and connections first before paying somebody a lot of money. Ifs theres a prob on your alarm board then it might be repairable but thats a bit more complicated to diagnose. Good luck mate.
