Thanks Pumpkin/GT, It is a F312 - ie 7.5" 3.909 open centre
Oz Craig,
Mate the RA23 will have a 4.100 Centre (6.7") Not sure how wide the RA23 Diff is I don't have one here to measure. The MX23 Diff is the same width as an RA40 diff tho !
The 3.909 ratio is better suited to a Turbo engine ove a N/A one as it will load the Turbo up more and should in turn bring it on boost sooner

really? Whats the benefit if of coming on boost a tiny bit earlier in real terms? Surely your acceleration is still hampered by the taller diff ratio enough to negate any earlier spoolup?

TE-72 Turbo,
I have every intention of testing out this therory myself once Tina's car is on the raod. However the small twin Turbo's on the 1G may not aid the theory all that well.
Theory suggests that the greater the load on the engine the sooner the Turbo will come on boost and it is supposed to well an truely outway the benefits of the taller gearing. I intend to run bot a 3.7 and a 4.1 (or 4.3 if I can find one) and see the difference personally.
I am aware of one application where the car did not make boost in first gear due to large turbo's when running a 4.1 ratio but after fitting a 3.7 it now generates boost in first quit happily.
One again this is all as I have been told and I am looking forward to testing it all out for myself. It could simply be that the turbo engines are better with a lower ratio (numerically) purely so you don't have to change gears so often ?

Fair enough. I'd be interested to hear the results once you've tried both combinations. As you said, you may find minimal result with smaller, early boosting turbos on the 1G, but in the case of my 4AGTE, having a large turbo & 3.7:1 diff ratio results in enough drop in revs between gears to necessitate almost flat shifting to stay within an effective power range. I will be fitting a 4.1:1 in the next week or so
