I finally got a Soarer...now all I need is some help Tue, 31 December 2002 07:01 Go to next message
I got myself a 1993 Twin Turbo Soarer (oh my god it is a magic car) and I need some help from either other Soarer owners or people that own imports.

After my last car (and first car) was a Holden Commodore I had no problem with parts and everyone seemed to know how to fix it if something went wrong. Now with an import car i am prepared for not as many people to know about it.

My question is quite general. Where do I get everyday items such as things for a service. Fuel filters...air cleaners...brake pads and the like. Things that wear our or may need replacing. Would I be best off getting a number of these parts for a stockpile at home so the local mechanic can fix it if need be or should I only let more professional people touch it? Will the Toyota dealer be able to help me in these areas or will they go "Soarer what??"

Thanks guys.

Once more...what a magic car!!

Toyota should be able to help you out, they can get import parts. BUT you will be paying out your ar5e hole for them Smile Try Repco (rip every poor cu%t off Smile) and the rest, I am unsure if they have the parts but I'd imiagine they should, the amount of Soarers in Aus now, there should be plenty enough market for them.

If you need any part numbers, just PM me. I've replaced quite a few serviceable parts on my Soarer as precautions with all Toyota genuine parts, and they don't cost much (if you know what Aussie delivered Toyota they are also installed in).

e.g. Soarer TT oil filter = 1996 Vienta V6 oil filter.

No...no insurance for this puppy.

I have no idea why people would insure a car worth this kind of money especially when it costs so much to insure.

I got quotes of $4000 (Just Cars in Melbourne) and $1700 excess. This is crazy.

I guessed if I put $5000 in the bank each year I would be able to by a new one every 2-3 years....even less as time goes on and prices drop. I don't plan on writing a car off every 2 years on average for the rest of my life. I have been driving for almost 7 years and haven't had any dramas yet...that would be $28,000 in insurance alone.....all I can think of there is $28 grand Soarer and I can see nice 19" wheels and some insane HP for 28 grand.....or a nice deposit on a house.
