disc brake diff on ra28?

Is it the original ra28 diff with disc conversion?

If ur looking for diff centres for a t-18 ra28 diff then a zenki ae86 centre is was u need. There are various models of ae86 diffs. but the Zenki type centers will be a perfect fit in the ra28 diff

Hope this is helpfull.

Yeah, more info required. Local RA28's never came with rear discs, so it's either:
- a normal RA28 rear end with a disc brake conversion.
- an RA28 GT rear end with factory discs (UBER rare).
- a complete rear end conversion (eg AE86, R31 Skyline).

Also, what part of your diff is stuffed? The centre, the axles, the housing, or all of the above?

Are there any other diffs that are popular to put into RA28's? We are trying to prevent any unneccesary expense or another conversion if possible.

Obviously finding an id code on the housing would be helpful but the car is locked up at the mechanic.

If it's a Toyota diff there will be no codes on the housing unfortunately. If you can get pics that may help though.

diff carrier diameter will be a start .... if its of toyota origin this should narrow it to a family .. ie d,t,f,g series etc.

i vaguely recall st142 rear discs fit with minor mods? may still be std diff....some1 here will know.

Yeah, You can adapt the ST141 disc brakes to the Standard RA28 diff, which doewsn't affect the diff centre (ie another T series centre from RA28/23 will fit.

The previous owner may have cut up a late sprinter diff (disc brake) to suit the RA28 but I don't know why one would do that.
meaning you might have the larger axles.

Standard diff is a T series type, which is common as muck. You can pick up a replacement from the wreckers for next to nothing. TA22/RA23/RA28/RA40/RA60 Celicas and various Coronas of the same era have what you need. A quote of $550 is pretty ridiculous, $50 is more like it!

you might just want to double check if it a T series by counting the teeth on one of the axels.

23 (or 24 - can never remember) teeth = T series diff

from my research i think ive gathered that ra28s have a 23 spline (is that the teeth your talkin about)and that diff centre came in a large number of cars...

wat i dont understand is my mechanic couldnt find any even with so many cars had that diff standard

im hoping with this new information i can ring some wreckers and hope they r helpful enuff to find a diff to match that..

any comments?

most likely place to score a T series centre would be from a RA60 celica.

from my travells through local wreckers, ive found most have at least one RA60 (or sa63) laying about.

lots of them about up here anyway
