You can't go past a VL Commodore for budget skidz. It's amazing how hard they go with little money spent. I have a friend with two of them, and while they are both piles of shit they sure do move. His modified one actually gives my Supra a run for its money, and it has a stock turbo!

Are you kidding?? V8 VL's were SLOW, only marginally quicker than the RB30E and nowhere near as fast as the RB30ET while using twice as much fuel. I can't believe people actually bought those.
And yes I was referring to Brett's yellow VL, which has just had an engine rebuild with a few go-fast bits added (including a high-flowed T3). Hasn't been run in yet but I expect it to be fully hektik! It better not be faster than the 2JZ though.

mate of mine has a calais with an RB30DET conversion + T04E + power FC
engine dyno estimated about 320rwkw...not something to be laughed at
just gives me an incentive to bolt a massive turbo on the side of the soarer...cant let his poo box win

Corona RT142 wrote on Fri, 16 September 2005 09:38 | Yeah you put an RB25DET head on an RB30E or ET block and you get an RB30DET, you can substitute this with eithe an rb20DET head (not enough flow) or an RB25DETT head (lots more $$$).
Theres a few guys on the r31skyline club website that have done it, one of them is getting 220-240rwkw at 10psi which is pretty good.
|
wrong
RB20DET head is gay and doesnt fit properly
the only head that fits really well is the RB25DET NEO head
merudo: yes really...
its basically the equivalent of a 1.5JZ but not as good...
and Rb25DETT doesnt exist as far as I know

Actually according to the guys on the R31 site you CAN fit an RB20 head but it just ain't worth it as it is too restrictive anyway. Oh and i meant RB26DETT head not RB25DETT (typo)

well the guys on the R31 site also claimed that an RB25DET head wouldnt fit and massive changes to the water galleries had to be made...yet they lined up nearly perfectly
dont belive everything you read on teh internets...
RB20 head bolts up
but the water galleries do need massive changes...
this is speaking from experience here....not what I read on the 31 club forums...

the guy in the back is confused he has a ferrari hat one. It wouldn't be too bad a car if it wasn't for the rims, replace them with some nice 17's or 18's aftermarket normal rims / dish or even say VX Clubsport rims.

Dam this really brings up some deep seeded hatred with VL's
Stop talking about how fast they can go on the cheap!
Friends Brother got one awhile ago, it had some mild modifications (stock engine, stock turbo, boost controller intercooler and thats about it) and apparently it really whent! Friends wern't so impressed with my supra anymore
Anyway he blew it up nice and good! Seemed he didn't know about using high octane fuel instead of regular unleaded, and also not to turn the boost controller right up (even using 98 octane would not of helped). Fool is still paying the loan off for the VL and living off centerlink.
Anyway Norbie what you said really scares me. Another VL that was lightly modified giving your 400HP mk2 supra a run for its money! NOOO!!! it's just a bad dream or something.

A good friend of mine has a runout VL Vacationer which has a worked 5l coupled to a W58. It moves along pretty decently and sounds awesome. Another mate of mine also recently picked up a VL with a modified rb20det and that thing hauled ass!
