1G-GE charging issue Fri, 16 September 2005 09:44 Go to next message
i have a 1g in a celica and it wont charge. ive had the alternator bench tested and was told it was good.

the power to my main connection to the alternator is good,

can any one tell me what the 3 wires in the plug/connection are meant to be.

I'm guessing an earth, one is ignition power, and the 3rd is the warning light,

please help me if i'm wrong.

Sense
Ign
Light

Sense goes to battery through AM1 fuse.
Measures battery voltage between battery and alternator.

Ignition goes to +12v ignition.
Enables the alternator to charge the system.

Light goes to dash light.
Gets triggered when sense volt > alternator volt.

When they tested the alternator they would haev strapped it to a bench, speed it up by some sort of belt and excuited it to get it charging with a 12 volt power source. I reckon that your alternator isnt getting excited from its ignition wire power source and charging because it that. I wired one up not too long ago but I cant remember the wire colours. A 1ggze alternator has the same permanent live and ignition wire colours as a ra28.
