i've done it on a rwd (mr2) 4age, be prepared to take the crank pulley off, the black plastic end covers, just to get to some of the bolts on the wp. do you have a manual? it makes it a lot easier. make sure you have a new o-ring. umm. if you dont have a manual, let me know your e-mail and i'll scan some pics and info and send to you.

I've recently changed the waterpump on my brothers 20V ae92... so it should be a similar swap for you... you will need a crank-pulley removal tool, and the normal assortment of sockets etc...
I put a few notes in the forums over at www.twincam16.com > http://pub26.ezboard.com/ffwdtoyotafrm2.showMessag eRange?topicID=1029.topic&start=1&stop=20
but here is an out-take... take note this was for a 20V, so you dont need to take off the intake phlenumn etc...
I can definatly confirm it is a bitch to change the pump... And after 2 attempts we got Marks pump swapped in properly and can now complete the job in around 2 hours... if you go to repco and get a Gates Timing belt part# T811 it will fit, 111 teeth, 19mm wide...
To get the pump off you have to remove the timing belt covers, timing belt, alternator bracket, and crank pulley... It is also easier to get at the hose on the back of the waterpump if you remove the intake phlenumn... With everything removed and the 3 bolts that hold the pump to the block removed, you will not be able to get the pump off the block because there is not enough clearance with the inner guard. to get around this, you remove the timing cover engine mount, and then remove the 'through-bolt' from the exhaust side engine mount, and then remove the 2 nuts on the bottom of the rear engine mount at the crossmember... you can then jack the motor up from under the sump (put a block of wood between the sump and jack to protect the sump) until the water pump is high enough to clear the inner guard... Then swap the new one in and start re-assembling.
to get the bolt out of the crank pulley, place a socket on the bolt with a large breaker bar braced against the ground (towards the front of the car), and crank the motor (the motor cranks clockwise)... the bolt will undo itself!
www.racingstrong.com/aw11/aw11parts.asp has a part# for a 20V pump and if you go to the local toyota dealer they can get one for you for close to $160 and with a 2 week wait...
Also, losen the 4 bolts on the waterpump pulley before you remove anything else, it will make things easier when you remove the pulley from the pump later on (we also had to raise the motor a bit to get the pulley out of the engine bay...)

Az, just did this in my cousins seca a few weeks back, take off the top and mid timing cover, unbolt the cam tensioner and remove the spring so you can move the belt around easily....do not take the belt off or you will have to reset the timing. unbolt the pump from the block and remove the other 5 bolts that hold the two pieces together. DO NOT unbolt the back section from the pipe!!!!!!!!!!! this makes it a bitch of a job, its far easier to just replace the impeller side (which is what you will get if you buy an aftermarket pump anyhow, mostly only toyota provide the whole new unit), this is a bit of a bitch of a job with the FWD, if you really wanted to make it a little easier you could drop the engine down by unbolting the engine mount.
Actually it looks like Ill be changing nathans water pump this weekend so if you want give me a call to see when Im doing it and ill help you with yours at the same time
