1JZ issues - yes, more

Ok
Wired up a JZZ30 into GX81 for someone coz the shop did an UBER dodgy.
Wired up the CEL, threw code 12 before even turning the key.
This is
# Open or short in crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor no. 1, no.2 circuit.
# Crankshaft position sensor
# Camshaft position sensor no.1, no.2
# Starter
Now, checked all 3 sensors
Resistance, output, continuity to the ECU all good.
Although, it has just occured to me that maybe the STA pin has got IG+ instead of STA.
I presume this will cause the code to throw?
Anyway, on to problem 2
The turbo's are making a high pitched squeal
Bring the revs up a bit, and it goes away.
As soon as the revs come back down to idle, the squeal starts up.
Now this wasn't there for the first couple of mins running.
What do we have? Fucked turbos? turbo drains?
Problem 3
Opened the p/s resevior and its bubbling away
Turn the wheel, and it makes a god awful grinding noise.
Fucked pump? or air in system?
Thoughts? Ideas?

bugger...
turbo squel sounds like no oil getting to them... low oil pressure? blocked lines? oil source taken from oil cooler line (with bypass thingy)??
if there's bubbles, there's air... if there's air, it should make horrible noises

Yeah check to see if STA has Crank, I suspect that would throw it...
Turbos -> check for socks? (ala Norbie style )....HP turbo feeds connected? Perhaps get an oil pressure gauge and remove them and check for certain that they have oil pressure? They do have single use copper washers there...have the turbos been touched at all?
As for the PS pump, I dumped the return (to the res) off mine, and filled it while it was running for a few seconds (flushing fulid effectively), and it doesn't appear to have any probs...
Cheers
Wilbo

squeal at idle is either fucked turbo bearings (needs oil pressure to centre/float shaft) or no oil pressure at idle.
suggest putting manual pressure gauge on oil line to see what it's doing at idle and higher.
also suggest removing turbo inlet and inspect blade edges/housing for the compressor vanes hitting the housing (indicates flogged-out bearing/shaft).
also - check for inlet restrictions upstream of turbos (as wilbo suggests)
as for the code 12, was going to suggest checking earths - the three picksup probably have a shield that's only grounded at one end (if they're like a knock sensor cable) and this may have been confused for the earth/return line for the sensor(s).
Pcteer probably needs bleeding (or a new pump).
cheers,
Charles.

Cool
Few things to check next time.
Definately sounds like STA has IG+
I'll have to do some learning about the turbo's
Its all new to me.
Anyone got diagrams! HA!
Time to read up on bleeding the p/s fluid too

Ok, bumping this thread.
Problem #1
STA does not have IGN
All 3 sensors appear to be in working condition.
Thoughts?
CEL does not get thrown while driving, only when TE1/E1 bridged
Problem #2
Attempted to bleed power steering by jacking car up and turning lock to lock a few times, this did not work.
Will try something else later.
Problem #3
Seems too have stopped for the moment.

afaik the powersteering will bleed itself, run it for a little while i.e. 20 minutes turning the steering wheel back and forth with the cap off, if the bubbles dont stop then there is a leak somewhere in the lines...

if the hose for the power steering isnt a proper one then it will make noises, the lines have something in them that stops them from making noise. The guy from ENZED was tellin me

Doesn't that mean you have an 'old' CEL code sitting in ECU memory?
ie drop the power to ECU then go for a drive. If no CEL then you must have fixed it.

I'm 99% sure the battery was disconnected for the past 8 weeks.
I'll have another go at the PS

Oh how it pained my ears to hear the power steering pump after i installed the PS cooler.
But as said above, top the bitch right up, start the car, let it idle, fill the lines and top up till it seems alright, then go for a drive.
Should sort itself out with a few turns and a tad more fluid.
