will a 14" 60 profile tyre and a 15" 60 profile tyre have same rolling diameter? Sun, 18 September 2005 13:14 Go to next message
Ok I am searching for tyres at the moment, and I just want to find some things out, can anyone help me out?
I have 60 profile tyres on my 15" rim now, and I am about to get 60 profile tyres on my new 14" wheels.
Will the rolling diameter of both tyres be the same having a 60 profile?
Thanks for any info.
Cheers.

Get your calculator out!

Rolling diameter = rim diameter + ( W * ( P / 100 ) * 2 )

Where W is the width in mm (eg 185) and P is the profile (eg 60).

Thanks Norbie!
I couldn't figure anything out with the stupid calculator on the PC, so I just googled "Rolling Daimeter Calculator"
and it gave me my answers!
But it has left me with another one...
How can the width of a tyre effect the rolling diameter?
Cheers.

well, I must have something messed up in my understandings then...

I just figured:
195 was the width of the tyre (__) and if this number changed it just meant the tyre was wider(____) or thinner(_).

and 60(the profile) referred to the tallness of the tyre sidewall, and if this number changes then the tyre(sidewall) is taller increasing the rolling diameter or shorter decreasing the rolling diameter.

and R15 is the rim size.

I don't think I have the last two things misunderstood, but I think I have mis understood the meaning of the first bit!
Can someone clear this up for me please?
Thanks heaps.

The 'profile'..i.e. the 60, means the sidewall is 60% of the width.

so if it was 200mm wide, the sidewall would be 120mm for a 60 profile tyre. Smile

of course not! one is based is 15in and the other is 14in.Shocked Shocked

there is no way to calculate the diameter(what the F is "rolling diameter?) of any tire from any manufacture & any of their models.
the only size that you can depend on without actual measurement, is the rim diameter - all else is open to interpretation.

you must get the specs from them, and i think that revolutions per mile will help you more then the diameter, unless this is just for wheel arch looks, and then these crude estimates are good enough for that.
