I haven't done it, and generally I guess people think they're a bit fat for the track but there were ma70's in Group A racing in the late eighties. I'm guessing a google search in the specs of these cars would yeild a good deal of info.

Thats in sports sedan category correct?
So is it still running a 7mgte or has it been replaced by a big fuck off 6.0L chevy which is very common in that category. Would be cool to find out, most of those cars sadly are merely a fibreglass shell and share very little in common with the road counterparts and hence most of the setup on it probably wouldn't help.

yeah, this sports sedan supras has been around for some years. Pretty sure it was an old thunder sport car, painted red & silver. Its a big V8 with space frame chassis & fibre glass shell as you suggest, nice race car. Im looking at road simular cars with oroginal chassis's as i wanna set mine up for sprints.

Probably pretty heavy. Can be done of course but you'll need to lighten it significantly. Probably not hard given the seats weigh some ridiculous amount each.

See on that webpage the Ae86 levins in the group A directory ?

Didnt someone off here end up with one of the ones the toyota team brought out as a road car ?

My engineer has some of the newsprint memorabilia re the ma70 winning races ..

he may have worked on them , I wouldnt be surprised, knowing who he's wirked with , race car team wise

As far as I am aware, all four of the Group A Supras survive. I have the ex Peter Williamson MA61, John Smith still has his ex TTA MA70 (the white car in the photos above), the Gary Willmington car (the red one)is still around and the other one (Peter Fitzgerald's car?) is I think down in Tasmania as I bought the original Motec from it a while ago from down there. All beautifully built cars, but as you say all too heavy to be outright contenders, and had to rely on reliability to get placings.

The odd group A engine survives as well. This is currently residing in SA...

Very tasty 7m!!

The closest I'll ever get to a Group A MA70 is my tamiya scale model of one!!

I've done some hunting recently, and the Gary Willmington car has definitely vanished from the scene. Spoke to Gary about it last week and even he cant find it. All my memories and recent discussions confirms they were under-developed as they were never considered an outright contender in GpA. They were far too heavy compared with other turbo cars like the Sierras or Skylines In GpA , minimal lightening was allowed, so if was built real heavy, thats what you got stuck with. Much as I like old Toyotas (and have 2 GP. A sprinters), my Cosworth Sierra would blow the doors off the best Supra ever built.
The advice therefore, is do whatever you can to get out the weight.

They were very poorly covered even back then. If you weren't in the top 10 (or a high profile driver out of the top 10 for whatever reason) then coverage amounted to almost zero.

If they were still circulating late in the race, the commentary team might do a little 2 minute vignette on the car, but that was the sum of it. This was when i could be bothered watching the thing from start to finish. Best bet would be to head off to the library and see if you can find those old Bathurst annuals that they used to publish post event.
