diffculty rating 1-10? (1 being easy)
head gasket blew on my car. i was quoted about $1100 to get it done... where as i can buy a new gasket for $75, plus sealant for like a few bucks more.
is it possible to do easily yourself? im not a mechanic but im also not car illiterate at all
any help would be appreciated

u were qouted 1100, most probably because the head gasket has blown for a reason.

eg too hot. so the chances are the heads warped, so u reco the head to save further problems down the track.

my headgasket went on a sigma, cost $20 to replace

depneds on how good you are with tools also and also as said car and motor. just pulled the head off the mr2 (3sgte) easy as, execpt for getting to the damn bolts for the inlet manifold. also as said it may of blown for a reason, the head should be sent away for an inspection and a service! that will cost!

the physical labor isn't much & any kid could do it if supervised.
it's the accumulated knowledge about every bolt & piece that they're charging you for. those that you don't have the knowledge to even ask questions about.
also a warranty on the work, the original cause, and anything else that would be usefull.

This would help alot Razz .

I just did the heads on my V6 4runner. Was a PITA. Cost just under $1000 for parts and head servicing and that was at trade prices.
If I never have to do this again it will be too soon.
