You'd mix the resin according to the instructions, then it thickens the longer it's in the pot. Usually you get about 10 - 15 minutes of working time, in which time you apply the resin to the fibreglass matting.
It really depends on the cracks of how much matting you would need, i'd say at least 3 - 4 layers covering more than the cracked area. It's not the easiest stuff to sand back either, you'd do best with a sanding disc on a grinder, or maybe an orbital sander with fairly course grit sandpaper. To get it up to scratch to paint would take a fair bit of work, probably some body filler to smooth out and fill minor imperfections too. It's hard to get fibreglass to look as good as metal!
Preping it you would want to cut back some of the cracked area, rough up anything that fibreglass will be coming into contact with - remove paint etc, then clean free of dust and grit before actually applying the stuff.

Don't put fibreglass on the front of your kit.
Take the kit off and glass the back of it then when it's dry, sand back the crack on the front prefferably by hand and definately not with a grinder.
When you have a clean and smoothish surface, use body filler to fill in the cracks than sand with a block or by hand depending on if the area is curved or not.
Use about 3 or 4 layers of glass so that the repair cannot flex and that way the body filler won't crack once it's painted.
When you read the instructions for mixing the resin, mix it with the minimum ammount of hardner required. It may take a tiny bit longer to dry but at least it won't turn all lumpy before you get a chance to use it.
Cheers,
Kurt

My front bar has gotten a bit beaten up over the last few years so I decided to give it a face lift and rebuild.
Did all of the work myself at my uncle's motorcycle repair shop.
Had to start off with removing the paint so the resin would stick to the original fibre glass, and then fill all the cracks and large damaged areas from behind.
Then I had to sand all the re-fibre glassed areas until smooth and fill any small holes and imperfections with bog.

After everything had been sanded back again we could get down to the business end prime it for painting.

The next picture is of her shiny new coat of paint....

And finally just to give it a bit of individualism we added these little silver details which match the side skirts.....

you put masking tape on the out side of the cracks of your fiberglass and fill it from the back about 3 layers of matting
