7M-GTE crazy revving problem... Sun, 25 September 2005 14:57 Go to next message
Guys-

I have a 7M-GTE powered mkII supra. Today, I was driving casually to a friends house, and as I put my foot on the clutch to change into 4th (at around 60kmh) the engine went crazy and the revs shot off towards 6100rpm. I turned the car off (rolling down the road) and started it again- was fine.

Then, a few blocks later, it happened again.

I found it had less chance of happening when I made sure my accelator was COMPLETELY out before depressing the clutch-

However, it did it once more, and again I turned the engine off- however this time when I start the engine it instantly begins it's mad race towards the redline- thus rendering the car undrivable.

The RACV came, pulled the 3000 pipe off, and had a look around the throttle plate- and thinks he freed something up, and suspects something jammed the plate. We found a tiny piece of plastic, but didn't want to start the car again in case the larger bit of forgein matter had fallen down the engine side of the plate, and was nestling in the engine.

Does this sound like an object in the throttle issue? Could my TPS be fucked? Why did it occur on gearchanges, anything to do with the clutch?

My mechanic is going to look at it tomorrow hopefully, but any help would be really appreciated.

Cheers,
Ryley

only way that could happen is if the throttle got jammed open. this could either be at the throttle body itself where something is catching on the lever bit... inside the TB with something physically holding the butterfly open, or the accel cable itself is gummed up or frayed or whatnot, and the cable itself is not allowing the throttle to close...

basically, elminate possibilities one by one.... it's a mehcanical throttle issue methinks

yeah, i figured it had to be mechanical. mr. RACV was pretty sure he found junk in there, and reckons pull it apart and make sure nothing has wandered down into the engine.

thing is, how could crap get from my intercooler up to my throttle body.

more importantly, i hope this crap hasn't gone through the turbo Confused

thanks for your help mate Smile

had same problem with my 4ac in my rolla, the throttle cable was all gummed up inside the steel line so i pulled it out and sprayed a crap load of rp7 thru it and worked the cable up and down the line untill it was really easy to pull thru and its been great ever since, although i also put a stronger spring on the throttle linkage on the throttle body to help pull the cable back thru. I doubt somethin has managed to get thru ur airfilter then ur turbo then ur intercooler all the way up to ur throttle Razz maybe some crap fell down when he pulled the pipe off or he couldnt find anything so he made somethin up Razz

good luck with it

cheers,
