Interesting don't know if he'll get the asking price but being a commodore someone probably will. For a VL it looks very tidy and would make a pretty good sleeper ie from the outside it doesn't scream 3.1L AWD twin turbo OMGWTFBBQ11111!!!!

Mr DOHC,
I see you still have not done anything about that aweful avatar !
Re the VL it would be a weapon i rember reading about this car years ago when it was built.
I dont know... for my money i think i would just get an R32.
However, if you want the sleeper option i would be making it look like stock VL, standard grille, go back to some steel wheels etc etc

For the money you'd get a R32 that'd be one wicked 32 you can get them from 20-30K depending on condition that leaves you with 20K+ for mods.

Its very nice, but a vl will never handle like a r32 gtr, my cousin has thrown a lot of money into his suspension in the vl turbo and it still isnt solid.

Thats strange, I have been in a few that have been awesome around the twisties with only mild modifications to the suspension.
Plus, I doubt that the suspension in this thing is anywhere near being stock.
I think it is awesome. A VL would be a fair bit lighter than an r32 gtr. My friends gtr weighs about 1700kg. It does have 250kwatw tho

Yeah the vl is ok, not like a r32 gtr, 1700kg where did you get that info from .
r32 gtr = 1480kg
r33 gtr = 1530

smt to be honest it could have been 1600 kg. He had it weighed at a weigh station. Something like 900kg on the front axle and 700 at the rear (that's 1600...). I helped a friend get a frontcut of one of these things and it was very heavy.
Also his has a 6 point rollcage so that would add some weight.
Still they are heavy bastards. Its all drivetrain.
I googled and it looks like they were 1500 stock.
How heavy would a steel six point cage weigh?

Yeah 1600 with a tank of fuel, and cage would be about right.

yeh, and from wat i heard vls are closer to 1300kg or around that. i think this would be an intresting drive though.
but u gotta take into account the design of the body. the r32 could have a heaps stiffer build. and weight ratios(front to rear). theres shit loads to take into account wen talking handling.
still. this would be a sic car to have. i really like the calai fronts lately

Calai's are around 1300kg, but lower spec Vl's are as low as 1200kg, but remember it is running the 4wd gear now so it would have probably almost caught a stock R32, ie front mount, i'd say an RB26 would weigh more than a RB30E, etc etc.

I've seen this car a few times, most notably running a Motorkahna in an Echuca carpark, and it's QUITE handy, to say the least ! ! The dude had the centre diff switched to minimum most of the time (for maximum tail-out action), however the run he DID do in 4WD was pretty freakin quick. It certainly looks like it's been done thoroughly, very neat & clean in both presentation and fitment/fabrication of custom bits. . . I was impressed by it anyway !

i think the rb26 would be ligher than the rb30
rb30 is a 3L single cam. but its an all iron block wif an iron head isnt it?
the rb26 would be an alloy head at the least. the block would prolly be lighter cause the smaller capacity at the least. but its been stocked or bored out to 3.1l anyway.
could it be that the guys got a rb30 bottom end wif a rb26 head. they do bolt straight up. and so does the box. from wat i know anyway. cause the rb25 box will bolt straight to the rb30. why not the rb26?

Its an rb30 with a rb26 head. And it has been taken to 3.1 litres.
Cosworth pistons
3" exhaust
Autronic ignition
(and a twin roller bearing intercooler )
This thing would haul ass!
Look at the crazy brakes it has. (IE Indycar, Harrop)

ahhh, fair enuf.
i figured that rb30/26. i funily enough, really wanna do that conversion on a calai one day. and jus leave the calai stock as a rock looks wise. wif a retrim interior nice maybe v7 SS rims or sumfin. and jus work the breasts out of the engine. lol

ahahha, yeh i know wher u coming from. i mean i never admit to my mate who owns one that i like it but secretly i sorta like em. but not much of a track car i dun think. u cant throw it round corners and feel safe. but maybe thats cause hes got a walky kit on it.
but wen u own a rolla wif a 4af and u drive a calai turbo pushing 200rwkw wif minor modifications then u sorta get attached to em lol

yeah i kinda agree to an extent, my mate has a r33gts-t, minor mods, lotsa powah! makes my 7a feel reeal shite...lol
but then again, my other mate has an ae92--->250FWhP
now that is a ride and a half, is quicker than the 33 of the lights, but the 33 has it easy through the twisty stuff, tho that really has nothing to with the topic, lol
