The red convertible was a Triumph Tiger, a popular sportscar in the states, and has a pretty big motorsport following, and would be more than capable of dorifto, if you could bring yourself to do such a blasphemous thing.
RIP Inspector Gadget (the real one, not that movie crap)

I think he drove a Sunbeam Tiger. Possibly a different name in the states. I think Sunbeam might have been the pommy name. My dads mate has a Sunbeam Tiger with a 308 in it. Pulls very hard. Perfect for dorifto.

I practically grew up on Get Smart, it was (and still is) one of my favorite shows. It was on Channel 7 for about 20 years without missing a beat, usually on Sunday afternoons but it went to Saturdays occasionally as well. Even when watching an episode for the 10th time (and could see the jokes coming) I would still be rolling with laughter. Phrases such as "would you believe.....?" and "Sorry about that, Chief" were hilarious and became part of everyday vocabulary.
From what I have read, the opening credits cars were a red Sunbeam Tiger (which were built with a Ford V8) for the first two seasons, the blue VW Karmann Ghia in seasons three and four, and then a 1969 Opel GT for season five. I remember the Sunbeam was used in quite a few episodes as well, it was equipped with lots of Bond-like gadgets, most memorably the ejector seat.
RIP Mr Adams.

I just had a rummage around. Mitsubishi Starion apparently. It's not exactly the same, but that's what the guys who designed the gadgetmobile based it off. Ofcourse, thats it in police car mode, not van mode.
