Rust pits onTA22 bonnet vent..

After scraping off some paintof my TA 22 bonnet vents, I found plenty of rust pits on them. The vents are really nice as I think of them as the "trademark" for TA22. Are there ways I can restore the vents to its original condition, than getting a replacement? Heard that iron solder can fill the pits....Anyone can respond to this??
many thanks.

If you want them chromed (i believe the TA22 ones are alloy) then, whoever does the chroming will copper-fill all the pits when they put the copper coating on for the chrome to plate to. SO, if your chroming, then you dont have a worry. If your painting, then the standard filling with spray filler should work... just make sure you etch prime any bare metal surfaces, or nothing will stick to the aluminium.
Cheers, Owen

thanks for the advices. Appreciate that. Wonder how good can those copper filling those pits. My bonnet vents have pits that are quite visible, like 3-4mm diameter, 2 mm deep. Can the copper do the trick?
Thanks

Hi JerryPoh, looks like the studs are being pulled out from the back of the vent, with holes that big and deep. Someone has overtightened the hold down nuts somewhat.
Post an ad in the "parts wanted" section of Toymods, I am sure someone will have a set of vents that are in tip top condition.
cheers Chuck.

I believe the technical term for the alloy in question is "shit metal". i have 3 sets of these vents and all are pitted to some degree. the alloy is just very easy to corode.
generally they pitt in the grooves where the water pools, on the ones i am putting on my car i am painting the vents black except for the ridge around the top, so i am fixing mine with filler.
i think they look quite effective like this and it will be a lot cheaper than getting them fixed.
i'll take pix when i get home coz you probably dont know wtf i am on about .
