Water to air cooler with Aircon? yes or no? Wed, 28 September 2005 09:01 Go to next message
I have inherited this Idea a few years ago from some one.
I will try to explain what it is I think will work the best and I have done some thinking on it trust me.

Set up a water to air intercooler like nornal with electric pump, radiator down the front, water to air intercooler on top.

But get a custon made intercooler, And in this have the part that would normanly cool the air going into your car.
So you have an intercooler that had a airconditioning cooler bolted to the bottom of it, the water would have to flow up through the chiller then through the intercooler and back to the radiator through the pump and back all over again.

I think this is the best way to do this for the reason of you have the intercooler touching the cooler for the aircon and if you have ever touched one of these you would know they are damn cold. As well as having the water flowing through it to get a fairly even cooling through the intercooler. Plus the extra sheilding from engine heat.

I have been told that what you would gain in power would be lost in driving the aircon pump. But if it was set to not be on with full throtle then while cruising or sitting at lights it would be chilling and then when you need full throtle or even 3/4 it cuts out.

I know it would be an exy project to do but I think I will give it a crack one day.

Am I mad?

Well I wouldn't bother. The parasitic loss of the pump would negate any effect the chilling of the air had. In the event that you did notice a significant difference, it wqas time to be upgrading your cooler to a more efficient one anyway.
