my diff is leaking oil

I just noticed today there's a small pool of oil where my diff is apparently dripping. it's not an alarmingly large pool of oil, but it's big enough to make me want to fix it soon.
I'm assuming all it needs is a new seal ... how difficult is this to replace, and what sort of oil would you recommend (bearing in mind it's an ma61 diff being driven by a 1jz)

thanks dave... I do have the manul, but didn't have it readily available when i posted.
I have a feeling it's the rear gasket, but I'm going to give it a good clean tomorrow and find out for sure where it's coming from

Clubagreenie is correct, we just replaced the bearings and crushable spacer on Ray's. Fixed the noise and the leak! Will be doing mine after dyno day.

Would you rebuild a motor if the sump was leaking?
I assumed that your diff was in good working order, just leaking. In the case of it just leaking- you DO NOT need to pull any pinion or differential centre out! I only rebuild diffs and change seals daily. Sorry, just trying to save Draven some unnecessary time and time.
Good Luck

much appreciated
the diff itself works fantastically.. no noises or rattles from it at all... perfect.
the only problem is the oil leaking seal

Geeze23, you have to understand how the MA61(F series) diffs work and you'll understand.
The crushable spacer that you torque up when you put the new seal and spacer in is designed to crush down to the perfect clearance size.
After time the crushable spacer reduces further and if you just put a new seal in it will wear out in a thousand kays and oil will leak past again.
