Im at hawthorne. Im looking to wire the fans to a relay to stop risk of burning out the fan motors. I want to connect one of the fans to a switch in the car and the other to the ignition.

Wouldn't it be best to wire the relay to the standard thermo switch! And then have the fans connected to the relay! That way they still work like factory items!

The ma61 came out with a clutch fan stock. So no thermo switch anywhere. The only electric fan was for a/c...

Well its not that hard to fit a thermo switch anyway! This is by far the best way to do things!
But you can wire the relay up to the ignition and have the fans connected to the relay so both fans run when you start the engine! Just make sure you dont have the ignition on without the engine for to long!

There should be a diagram moulded into the plastic relay casing. This will list each of the relay terminals with a number that is also moulded next to each terminal.

You need to have them wired as following, if the pins have standard numbers:

30: Ignition 12V

87: Thermo fan positive wire

86: Ignition 12V (can tap into wire for pin 30)

85: Dash switch

The other side of the dash switch can go straight to the body of the car, anywhere that is a reasonable ground/earth point. when you flick the switch it will ground the coil in the relay, bringing the contacts together for the 12V feed to the thermo fan. You could probably have one relay per fan if you want, and can just split the wire from your switch to each relay. At least this way if a relay fu(ks up you will still have one fan working.

All advice happily given, but no responsibility taken! Very Happy

Cheers
Phil

Most relays are made by the same place belive it or not!

Depending on where you wire the fans to without the relay will depend on how safe it will be!

There is nothing wrong with that! Of course you'll be using a switch?

Do you mean paying someone to do it? If so bring it to me! I'll do it for less than anyone else will!

Is this the toyota relay labeled as a "blower relay" or "main"? located in most fuse boxes. I'm using a mx73 fuse box in my ms55 and using the "main" relay for the fans.In this situation they have only one common power input and are earth switched. If you can make it click it should be working. There are four terminals as normal. In the original fuse box they are 3: power in, 11 & 12, one of these is the switching wire and the other the output (sorry I didnt feel like dismantling it again to check). But if you can make it click, it should be working.
