Matts MA61 (56k warning)

Hi all, just thought I'd post up a few pics of my car as it was, is and in a few weeks will be.
As it stands;
MA61
5ME and AT
standard everything
As it will be;
7MGTE (I have 2 of these engines now)
custom FMIC (I have this now too)
Lexus AFM (on it's way)
550cc Injectors (on their way too)
Apexi SAFC (ditto)
Simmons FR17 8 and 9 inch with 235/40/17 and 255/40/17 (ordered and paid for yesterday, ouch!)
custom 3 inch dump (have this)
Autometer boost gauge (so purty)
Walbro 255 in tank pump (ordered)
Gizzmo Boost controller (ebay special)
Cruzida's z32 brake upgrade (all parts currently being either machined, re-kitted and sandblasted or drilled as we speak)
At this point I'd like to thank a few members for their help so far with this;
JAZE: for being a cool guy, for supplying me a veritable butt-load of MA61 parts for next to nothing, for finding me a 7MGTE conversion that is pretty much a straight bolt in to my car and helping me and Joorsh remove it from Joorsh's car, for offering to help my very nooby self with the install side of things (hopefully I wont have to call on you too much) and for sacrificing the suspension in his Corolla wagon to take the 7M et al back to my place, go teh rolla!
Joorsh: for supplying one of the 7MGTEs, FMIC and piping, ECU, wiring etc and helping me and JAZE remove it all from his car (and for getting his dog out of the way for most of the day/ night)
Draven: for pointing me in the right direction for (relatively) cheap simmons wheels
Cruzida: for his brake upgrade and for answering more than a few of my undoubtedly annoying PMs
Yian: For suggesting that I PM JAZE in the first place, otherwise I'd still be scratching my head wondering how the f%^$ I was going to get the 7M I just bought to fit and run!
OK, now the pics;
The beast as I bought it 2 months ago
As it is now

Yeah, that was the problem I had, had to get them made up with custom offsets +18 at the front, +0 at the rear. They'll look sweet tho....

Today, with the help of my good friend Jason, a lot more has been done!
Gearbox crossmember fitted and tailshaft changed, holes cut in enginebay and intercooler piping fitted. Brake and clutch pedals either changed or fitted along with new clutch master and slave cylinders.
Alternator wiring traced back through car loom and re-routed to passenger side of car then fitted to alternator, radiator shroud purchased and modified, radiator re-fitted. VS commodore top pipe modified to fit as new top pipe, ma61 unit will do the job for bottom.
Dump pipe fitted and engine loom pushed/pulled through firewall and 7M ECU connected. Oil cooler fitted. Lexus AFM and K&N pod filter fitted
Some photos below......

Purty new brakes are now on, props once again to peewee for his information and spacers etc.
Also pictured below, the mess I have made (well, I had Michael and Glen to help me, thanks guys!) of my interior. Hopefully can get it all back together in the next few days. Should be simmons day tomorrow too!!

Simmons on today!
Started it up yesterday, ran like shit so pulled off cam covers and black strip thing over plugs, cleaned out oil and gunk and crap out of spark plug area, fitted new cam cover gaskets, spark leads and platinum plugs, fitted walbro pump and gave it a fresh tank of optimax and a bottle of injector cleaner and sure enough......
still running like shit! Not sure where to go from here, could be electrical, could be the fact it's running through a dump pipe with no other exhaust system (shouldn't sound like it's running on 4 cylinders tho, should it?)
Ah well, we struggle on.....

Looking haawwwttt.
Start with the easy things, while its running, pull one lead off at a time, see whats not sparking.
Could be dead lead or 2, could be dead coil, could be dead injector or 2.
Make sure the timing is spot on.
Also, something could have gotten unplugged easily (ie, a coil)

Bummer, have to pull all that crap off the top of the motor again
Thanks for the tips, I cant see it being leads or plugs as I replaced them and nothing changed but maybe a coil? They all seemed to be plugged in when I had the pack off to change camcover gaskets yesterday, maybe one is dead. If it's an injector or 2 that'll be ok because I have some 550cc sards I was going to fit along with my lexus AFM after I had everything running ok. This motor was running in joorshes car only 3 weeks ago, wouldnt have thought things would have karked it between then and now, bugger!

Yeah, I thought that it should run fine, turbos need to breathe after all and backpressure isnt critical like a NA engine

Was gunna suggest that maybe you weren't running the 02 sensor, but I just re-read and saw that you are running the dump pipe with the O2 sensor attached...

Yeah, it's on there nice and tight. Started it up again today and it at least idled, seems to be getting better. Maybe just needs a good run? Josh also tells me that the aftermarket FPR and the timing has been dicked around with to suit the setup he had in his car. I might just wait til I get the exhaust on then start stuffing around with things to see what improves the situation.
Thanks all for the suggestions

Well, it was only a matter of time before I had to display my total dumbass-edness.
So here goes; failing any good diagrams or pics online after extensive googling:
1) Is this the way my BOV goes? makes sense to me but it doesn't vent boost in any audible way.... (pics 1 & 2)
2) This may be because I'm not getting any boost when I rev the crap out of my engine (not sure why that would be, IC pipes are all tight), I can hear the turbo but the boost gauge says nada, is this port (the one my boost valve and IBC are plumbed into) a one way valve for vacuum only? The hose is the one with the black zip tie out of the manifold, goes into a t-piece, one end goes to boost gauge hose (clear hose you can see just above large brake booster vacuum hose) and the other end goes to boost input of IBC (Pics 3 & 4)
3) Although the manual doesnt say anything about this I'm assuming I have to actually drive the car to set boost on my gizzmo IBC. Can anyone confirm/deny this for me? Or is it a problem with the outlet Ive hooked the hose to per last question?
That'll do for now, I feel dumb enough asking just these. Pics for first 2 questions are below.
Cheers

I'd look at something unplugged - when it was pulled off joorsh's car it was running perfectly, so in theory it should run perfectly again now.

Where does the silver looking 'braided' vacuum line coming from? The one that goes under the massive brake booster line?

From top/middle of intake manifold to charcoal cannister. I believe vaccum only (wouldn't want to be boosting into that, surely!) It's the same place it was originally routed to in Joorshes car anyway

Oh okay... I've run a vacuum line from the nipple at the back of the manifold (where you've teed the boostguage and EBC) to the metal line under the brake booster one.
My boost gauge line is teed off the FPR. Seems to work...?
Pictures. Ignore the build-up of crystalised shit on my heater thermostat plug thingo.

Ahh, bugger it. I'll just wait til I can drive it and see what happens. I've been told I probably won't make any boost just from revving in neutral anyway. Thanks for the pics Yian, those plugs look crusty with that red shit on 'em
Hey, I noticed on your coil packs that the earth wire is now under the mounting bolt instead of screwed the metal plate they sit on, did you snap that shitty little terminal as well? As soon as I moved the pack that thing busted off and I couldnt get that shitful screw undone, just destroyed the philips drive in like 2 secs

yeah, i was gonna say you won't make boost if you're just free-revving...
and, as far as i know most boost controllers like to be tuned on a long stretch of road in 3rd gear....
but i might be wrong....
looks great by the way

Ok, got the car back today, exhaust looks sweet, will post pics soon.
Problem is it's still running like shit. I've pulled the coil packs off and tested one cylinder at a time, all of them make a difference when unpluged from the pack except cyl 3. Pulled out the plug and wired it back up to the coil pack, getting good spark across the gap. I'm thinking perhaps dead injector as unplugging cyl 3 from the coilpack makes absolutely no difference whne it's running but the plug from cyl 3 still sparks well. Before I go ahead and start what looks like a pretty big job (replacing an injector) does anyone have any other suggestions? I havent run a compression test on cyl 3 but 3 weeks ago it was running fine in joorshes car so I really doubt that's it.

Problem fixed, was loose wiring
Pics of teh cannon
Things to do now that it's alive!
1) find and fix oil leak coming from somewhere around the remote oil filter attachment on the block
2) Wire up dash and safc, do something about fuel pump relay (or lack thereof) and figure out why accesories stay on after key is switched off (including fuel pump dammit!). It's really weird, you connect up the battery, nothing is on. Turn the key, accessories come on, engine starts, all good. Turn off key, accessories stay on, but engine shuts down. It's got me stuffed. Ive offered to pay a couple of ppl to help with final wiring, no takers yet it seems....
3) Put dash back together again
4) Check bank balance and cry
