i havent ever come across a T50 with the rear shifter position AND the bigger bearings and 22-spline output shaft...
I used the T18 g'box on my AE71... being from behind a 3T-C it was rear shifter position, 20-spline output shaft and the smaller input shaft beaing. I chucked the 4a bellhousing on no worries.....
BUT!!!
i used a combination of the washers in the bellhousing to seal it good, and used a crapload of silastic

The TA12, TA22, TA23, TE27, TE37, TE30, TE51, TE55, TE61, TE65 etc had the shorter more forward shifter position. (more direct, need to pull up for reverse)
TE71, TE72, AE71, AE85, AE86, AA60 etc had the longer more rearward shift position.
I think all of them have a 21t spline input shaft. TA22/TE72 have a 20t output shaft.

Yes the TE72 is the same as the early (TA22) gearbox, same internals. Only the TE72 one has less vent holes in the bellhousing, uses a different clutch fork and slave cylinder, has the rearward shifter, and has 4th and 5th gear switches on the housing for emissions stuff.

Got a 22 spline T50 here that came out of 1983 T-18/TE72 just to add that to the mix.
i assume they updated the later ones
