MR2 driveshafts Mon, 06 January 2003 01:27 Go to next message
Do all of the SW20 MR2's have the longer shaft in 2 parts, or just the turbo ones?
ie the part coming out of the gearbox is then bolted to the block through a bearing, and then a shorter part on a CV joint to try to give equal length shafts.
I have unequal length in my car which likes to torque steer all over the joint, so I'd like to fix this.

i suspect only turbo which also uses larger shafts. our NA cars have 1 piece shafts. we dont have ny problem with these on race cars--you must have a problem!!

My car is front wheel drive for starters, plus I have a turbo diesel engine which produces peak torque of 200Nm at 2300rpm.
With the shorter springs plus wider tyres it just likes to pull all over the place.
I also want to fit an LSD from an MR2 which then hopefully solver th problem all together.

the shafts simply pull out of the diff like most other cars. the pot joint is only held in by a snap ring. there is a ledge on the joint to pull out/knock in.

the caldina diesel uses the NA celcia/MR2 box I think. Good luck finding a LSD is this is the case. i spent ages and ended up buyng a complete jap wreck to get a diff cause neither KAAZ or TRD had any.

the trubo drive shafts are an overkill IMHO

I'm not after the MR2 driveshafts because they're bigger or anything, just because they have equal length shafts between the CVs which significantly reduces the tendency to torque steer.
Just wanted to check whether the NA MR2s had them as well.
