carb setup - where to put the fuel reg ??

im setting up a 6psi regulated fuel system.
from everything ive read, a bypass type regulated pressure system is the most ideal (versus a dead head system)...
however, noone actually states the best place to put the regulator. im guessing having the reg right up in the enginebay, near the jet is the way to go (bottom diagram) - mainly because i figure you'll see less pressure drop from the reg output to the jet, thus making the metered pressure at the jet more reliable.
however, what about what ive drawn at the top? reg close to the pump, with a long line to the front of the car. if i make that line line a decent size, i imagine the pressure drop to be minimal?
it just saves a whole bunch of fucking about running 2 fuel lines the whole length of the car. atleast you still get some benefit of having the bypass system (and its adjustability in a no flow situation)...
...or am i way off, and the pressure drop is just too great, and im better off just sucking it up and running those two long fuel lines??
cheers

up close to the carbi - you want the fuel pressure not to drop or modulate too much - particularly if you're flogging the unsuspecting carbi-powered engine.

i agree also. have the reg nearer the carby. the pressure drop from the first system shown might be enough to cause a surge under hard gas gas situations.

GREAAATTT.... doesnt that just suck, another 2 lines making their way the full length of the car.
i kinda guess i knew thats the way it would be, but was hoping someone would say, 'nah, that'll be fine'
thanks guys.

wel,, i see it this way..
you are running a carby... which as a float bowl... so there is always a reserve of fuel there.
the 6psi is needed to overcome the float needle pressure and flow fuel into the float bowl.
as long as you have 6psi at the float needle, it doesn't matter what pressure drop you have...
see, the difference between EFI and carby is that the fuel is static, except for what is being used.. whereas EFI, the return line is full bore, minus the fuel being used, and the feed line is always runnign at pump maximum capability...
carby is not like that, as you have a dead head to the float chamber...
so I reckon... it will be fine.... to test the theory, you just need run a line to one of the carbs and push the float down to get the expected maximum flow, and see if you maintain pressure..
i doubt a single 8mm fuel line will have a big pressure drop for the fuel velocity you are using...
i reckon just do it.. if you have a pressure drop it will only be 1 or 2psi, and so you can just bump up the regulator a couple of psi
too easy
do it the easy way first
